Changing Colleges

Has anyone ever experienced their kid changing their mind about the college they are supposed to be attending before the semester starts? My daughter changed her mind after new student orientation.

A lot of times it is cold feet and buyer’s remorse and just general fear. - very common… and she may not have found her peeps at the orientation. Unless she is willing to take a gap year and reapply to another school for the following year, encourage her to attend the first year and work hard. If she is still unhappy she can always transfer. Encourage her to get involved in activities she loves - and she should find folks she likes there… ;)

Ohhhh yes. My youngest was not thrilled on move in day and miserable most of first semester. She even called a local university on Christmas break asking if they would take her.
I sent her back, she stayed. She will be a junior.

That said, I know a number of kids who bailed out just prior or just after move in. I know a guy who drove his daughter 6 hours to Va to move in and she said - no thanks!

If your child is having reservations, sit down and have an open, thoughtful conversation. Get to the underlying issue. After that, if she agrees to go then get her to committ. IMO, all freshmen should commit to finishing the first semester, if not the full year; unless there are serious academic issues.
