Changing dorm?

I was put in a Umrath triple on a substance-free floor. I didnt want to be substance free at all, and didnt really want a triple either. Is there anyway I can get out of definitely substance free and possibly triple. I can stand the latter.

If I do end up substance free is there anyway I can not sign the contract. I really don´t want to sign my life away like that.

Who do I contact or call?

Very few people are successful at getting their dorms changed, and those people usually cite a health reason.

Chances are, you’re not getting out of a sub free contract and your triple. I never understood why they’d put people who didn’t request subfree housing on a sub free floor… especially when there was a kid on my freshmen floor who requested subfree (and we weren’t… my floor had quite a reputation actually).

Learn to look at the highlights.

You got into Umrath. That’s incredible. Brand new dorm. Translation: you get an AWESOME mattress.
I’m jealous.

You can’t really change, from triple to a non triple, or from sub free to non sub free. Not everyone is happy with their assignments, and they can’t accomodate everyone. Unfortunately, if you refuse to sign the contract, you’ll be kicked out of housing. Know that sub free floors often party more than non sub free floors.

You’ll notice on almost every college forum there are people wanting to change…it’s impossible to give everyone what they want with limited options. You may even end up liking it, so give it a chance and embrace it – there’s no point getting angry about it when you can’t do much.

And like Johnson said, being in Umrath will more than make up for everything.

How can you tell which ones are sub free? My son got into Beaumont.

It’ll say on the housing status, where it says what dorm and who his roommates are.

Beau 3 is subfree.

//You got into Umrath. That’s incredible. Brand new dorm.//

I’m jealous too lol. I got Ruby. Wanted modern but I’ve gotten over it.

One of my friends who had requested sub free didn’t get it, so idk what’s up with that.

There might be a mistake. The sub free floors in my dorm got swapped by accident…but even if its not, it seems like most people go to other dorms for parties anyway

Sub Free floors are not bad at all. A lot of my friends lived on these floors, and they were still able to go out and have a good time. The big thing is there is no alcohol allowed on the floor - if they see it, they will not give you a warning compared to normal floors where you are given a warning and then you are given a speech. There is a Redd Flag policy at Wash U where basically as long as the RA’s don’t see you drinking alcohol, you are not being obnoxious, and you are not leaving it out in the open for everyone to see, they let it slide. On Sub Free, just go to other floors and don’t come back loud and disturbing others. The big thing is you will become close with your freshman floor, so it is more of getting to know everyone rather than what you can or cannot do on the floor. :)

GaLexiGirl- you had ra’s that would red flag you if they saw you drinking alcohol?

My freshmen ra’s specifically said they didn’t care if they saw us drinking alcohol; they just didn’t want to see us taking shots or playing drinking games. They specifically had a rule where they wanted our doors open.

I don’t do the whole alcohol thing, but i had a floor that loved drinking and partying, and we got several complaints from the floor below us, so that was when our RA’s decided to crack down a bit harder. One suite even got a probation where there we so bad the entire suite was constantly checked on for alcohol and parties.
