Changing from BS Chem to BA Chem

I am currently a senior, and I intend to graduate this May. I am having severe troubles in P. Chem 2 (quantum). I need this course to graduate with a BS, but I am seriously concerned about my ability to pass.

The instructor (who conveniently is also my academic adviser) suggested that I drop the class (he will support the late drop, so no penalty) and graduate with a BA instead of a BS.

I would gladly do this, as grad school visits have just ruined me in this class, and I’m so far behind now. My only concern is that some of the graduate programs to which I’ve been accepted might rescind their offers when they see that I dropped P. Chem 2 and graduated with a BA. Then again, I suppose scraping by with a D in P. chem 2 wouldn’t look so great either.

I have all other courses required for the BS, so while the degree would say BA, it is essentially a BS minus one class.

Advice?

No chance of scraping by with a C-, I suppose (even if it means “neglecting” your other classes and getting mediocre-weak grades all around this term)?

Frankly, I doubt it.

I should also mention that I have good research experience (3 semesters and a full summer - all in the same lab) and good recs. I will be attending the national ACS conference this year, and I will have 1 publication soon.

Also, I want to do organic research in grad school, not p. chem.
