Changing housing status after 5/1

hello everyone.

I was accepted to NYU as a commuter student back in march but due to extenuating circumstances, my living arrangements have changed. I was to live with my parents before but they have decided to leave the country. I paid my tuition-only deposit a few days ago but now that my situation has changed, i was wondering whether NYU would allow me to make a housing deposit AFTER the May 1st deadline has passed. how flexible do you think they would be?

i appreciate your help

tal,

You are so close to the cut-off (just by the weekend), I would call Housing immediately on the family’s change of circumstances (provide documentation to them, if available, e.g., new home address for your parents). The extenuating circumstances should be considered, if NYU Housing is reasonable. I also experienced 2 very different responses from Housing, first one was with an agent who was very withholding (even ignorant except for generalities) in terms of information and procedures for Housing application. The second agent I spoke to seemed ready to address my concerns for my son’s Housing application and indicated NYU Housing Office’s ability to work with us and make changes up to June 1 (when Housing Reservation of $1000 is due). So, I would make sure to get someone reasonable (even a supervisor in charge, if the initial response is not favorable)

You really are not that far off in time. Just address it immediately tomorrow by phone first, and then with follow-up, if necessary. GL!

1) Call IMMEDIATELY.
2) Get names, get things in writing.
3) Follow up with people.

These are all tips for dealing with Housing in general. Be persistent, polite and get proof of everything they tell you. I’m sure they’ll work with you.

Just to get information, when is the housing application due???
