Changing Majors

Before enlisting in the military, I went onto college right after graduating high school. Community college majoring in Criminal Justice. My first semester I took remedial courses, passed, and come out with a 2.7 GPA. The following semester I took two course relating to Criminal Justice, Elementary Algebra, and Psyh. I dropped Psyh due to low grade, received a D+ and C+ in my two Criminal Justice courses and a C in Elementary Algebra resulting with a 2.1 GPA. I am currently stationed in the state of California and want to finish my degree before I get out(SEP '16) and transfer to a university. The problem is, I want to change my major to finance and transfer schools. My GPA is terrible and I really want to get into a good University because I want to go into IB. Will my GPA reset if I transfer schools and switch my major from criminal justice to Finance? Will my CJ courses count towards my FIN degree? I know I can’t get into Harvard or any Ivy League because it’s too late for that but what is a realistic GPA I can have if I really worked hard? What schools can I get into that are really good for IB? I really want to go to UCLA, UBC, NYU, etc. Is it possible for me to get into these schools with just military and no EC?

It depends. You’ll need to ask the school. Some don’t include the grades from prior colleges.

They might fill a gen ed. Ask the school

Being in the military is a job which counts, and the military is usually given a break on many things because of their service. That being said, don’t count on going into IB. People tend to be cherry picked from a small number of colleges and TBH with your algebra grade I don’t think you’ll do well enough.
