Changing majors?

I was accepted to my second major (Writing and Rhetoric) but am considering switching over to History or International Relations. Is it possible for me to start + finalise this change before officially starting classes, or do I have to wait until I actually get to campus to do this?

(I found a Declaration of Major form online, but I don’t know if incoming freshman are allowed to complete it before enrolling in classes…)

It depends on the college. Different colleges have different rules about that kind of stuff. I’m assuming that you’re in VPA and you’re interested in either going to CAS (for history) or Whitman (IR). You’ll need to call someone–from your home college first and then one of the other colleges–about the process of applying to one of those different colleges.

@Syracuse19 I believe Writing and Rhetoric is also under CAS - would I need to fill out the form I found, or should I wait until the freshman course registration period to get this done?

@appletea You can’t declare a major in just any college–you need to actually be in that college. Like I said above, if you want to do IR then you will need to apply to be accepted into Whitman. If you want to be a History major instead of Writing and Rhetoric major then you need to talk to your advisor. Just call someone from CAS and ask them about the process.

To directly answer your question–no. Don’t just fill out that form. Talk to someone about it. And by someone I mean an adviser at Cuse from your home college.

@appletea @Syracuse19 Just letting you know that IR is not in Whitman, it’s a joint program between CAS and Maxwell.

@Prospective20 Yeah. Sorry about that. I’m a Newhouse major. What I said still applies though as far as talking to an adviser in the home college to figure out the steps to take.
