Cheap computers

Hey all, as much as I will tell you all to buy a Mac when looking for a computer, I have a special program I need to run on a PC. I could install a dual boot on my Powerbook, but Id rather preserve the integrity of my machine and buy a separate laptop. But heres the thing… ive got about 300, 350 TOPS for this venture.
I need a laptop, Windows XP Pro, 512 + ram, 1.3 + ghz and 10gig minimum HD.
Any suggestions as to where I could find one, outside of Craigs List and ebay, which i check religiously. Id rather acquire this machine within the next week before I leave school as it makes installing the program MUCH easier.

You KNOW i want this program badly if I am willing to get a PC for it, anybody who has read my computer advice before knows how much I advocate for the Mac. So if you can hook me up I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks for your help,
Iplayoboe

For $300/350 for a laptop, you’re looking at a used one. At that price range, I 'd usually go to a computer show where there’s lot of used equipment. I did a quick Google search and you are in luck!

Starting tomorrow through Sunday, there’s a big show at the State Fair grounds in St. Paul: http://www.supercomputersale.com/Locations/Minneapolis/minneapolis.html

The main website claims between 30-80 vendors will have tons of used and overstock computer goods:

(click on “Thousands of bargins”: the site claims that used laptops starting from $199 and older IBM Thinkpads for $299)

As always, check everything out and see if you can get some kind of warranty…

Check it out…

Forgot to mention: There’s usually an admission fee ($5.00 here in MI.)

Wow thanks!
I knew I was probably going to get a used machine for this venture, so a warranty is going to be a big factor.

thanks again,

the fair grounds are seriously like 10 minutes from here, thats fabulous.

Glad to help.

One hint: Sometimes, it’s better to wait until Saturday morning to go. Friday is setup day for the vendors and sometimes not all the vendors will be ready. All vendors will be present on Saturday…

Didn’t notice at first, but it’s an $8.00 admission. Still a bargin to see all the weird stuff that passes for computer hardware these days.
