Cheap hotel in new york

My friend es looking for a cheap hotel in New York. No luxuries expected, just low rates. Location flexible as long as it close to the subway. Would like free wifi, free breakfast and hopefully shuttle to JFK.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Can you define “cheap”? In the conventional sense of the word, there is no such thing as a cheap hotel in New York, certainly not in Manhattan.

Larchmont Hotel in the Village. Spotless, bathroom down the hall, but really nice. Breakfast included, I believe, as low as $99.

100 or less. Does not have to be Manhattan, can be close to JFK. Distance is not an issue for them, price is

THe Pod hotel has rooms with shared bath for about 109. midtown location

Hotel Seventeen

My d was visiting there with other poor college buddies over veterans day weekend…and no, they could not find a cheap hotel to stay in…that I would approve of! (not in a rotten area etc.). So glad they found the best deal of all…sleeping free on the floor of a friends dorm at Fordham University. Definitely a shared bathroom!
I would also love to know the best spot for $125 per night! I am taking notes!

Have you checked the rates at hotels in or near JFK? Queens will be much cheaper than Manhattan, but even Brooklyn will usually cost over $100.00.

I don’t think your friend is being realistic. When he finds such a hotel, let us know.

What is everyone talking about?
Use hotwire, I stayed in a hotel in Times Square for 88 bucks a night, private bathroom… room on the 32nd floor, views of the river.
Sheesh, I take it no one is a native New Yorker.
Not to mention there are cheaper hotels out there… esp if you just want one by JFK. There are also hostels. Also try air bnb because you can find a room for rent around 50 bucks a night.

Oh and the $88 hotel a night had free wifi, the free breakfast thing is stretching it. Your friend can grab a coffee and croissant for 2 bucks at a breakfast stand on the street.

Hotel rates in NYC are notoriously variable, based on demand (e.g., when the UN is in General Session, good luck finding anything under $700/night). The only exception tends to be hotels with shared baths, none of which will have the amenities your friend seeks (except perhaps wifi in the lobby). The best thing is to check online for the date s/he needs; Queens will be much, much cheaper than Manhattan. There are any number of online booking sources (hotwire, priceline, expedia, travelocity, hotels.com), and tripadvisor.com is a good source of reviews.

Quality Inn, Days Inn etc in Elmhurst, Woodside etc., Queens are around $70 they have internet but not sure schuttle to airports.

But Pan Amrica Hotel has everything you wanted.

<a href=“Booking.com: Hotels in Queens. Book your hotel now!”>http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/pan-american.en.html?aid=311088;label=hotel-us-56262-en-5CAble8P84YPbELHokB6hgS2578882593;ws=&gclid=CNf5hPS8ia4CFakbQgodznbs4Q</a></p>

I’ve heard that The Jane in the Village is good.

In terms of quality the 100’s of reviews on Tripadvisor is a good source.

My last stay in the Apple I stayed at the Hampton on 8th and 51th - highly rated on Tripadvisor for good reason.

dudedad, We love the Hampton Inn North as well!!! We are staying there for DD’s audition trip in March and paying only $135/night. Booked again for December already and only paying $165 (which is a steal for a week before Christmas).

Break a leg!!!

munequita, I agree that your friend is dreaming about all those amenities for less than $100. Getting a room of any description in Manhattan for less than $100 is virtually an impossibility, at least one you’d actually want to stay in!

There are a lot of variables here and it will largely depend on when your friend is going. If it had been in January, the chances of getting one or two of the things on the wishlist would have been better. February it will be a little tougher and from March on, unlikely. My suggestion is to have your friend google JFK area hotels. That is probably the best bet for what they want and the only chance at all that the hotel may have a shuttle. That will not happen in Manhattan, even if you’re paying $600/night.
