Hello,

I decided to buy myself a laptop because it seemed necessary to work on my thesis without having to be on-campus, using school computers. I was wondering if anybody could advise me on a simple and cheap laptop. I only need to use word, check my e-mail, and potentially watch and edit short videos. The less money I spend the better, but I suppose I do want a computer that will last at least for the next 3-4 years. I was mostly looking at computers around 300$ or under, which is what makes it hard to find.

Thanks a lot!

There are lots of laptops in that price range. But most will not last your 3-4 years. I’d suggest saving to $350 range and aiming for a Intel i3 at minimum, something with HDMI, 4 gigs of RAM, and minimum 320 gig hard drive. You should check lenovo outlets online and slickdeals.net they randomly post sales. You can create a deal alert so whenever the word laptop appears it emails you.

The ones I know under $300 are netbooks which I think are underpowered for editing video. You could check the Dell outlet section. They sometimes have good bargains.

Get a used Mac off of eBay or spend a little more and get one from their refurbished stock. Lenovo is junk. So is dell. We have a Mac laptop that is at least six years old and still being used for word and Internet. It’s not speedy but it works!!

Thank you for your answers! I was worried that if I get a used one, I would not be able to get the warranty. What could I get with these spec for 350?
