I wonder if anyone ever traveled to Southern Europe by boat. Maybe there are cargo ships that take passengers that sail from the East coast?

I traveled between Europe and the USA by boat twice but that was a long time ago when I was a kid. I even traveled on the SS United States which is now docked in a poor state of repair in Philadelphia (I hope this flagship of the USA and the transatlantic crossing speed record holder ends up getting restored). The other time was on an old liberty ship I think.

You could take a cruise type ship from the east coast to Europe but it’ll cost far more than an airline ticket. I don’t know what the cost of going on a freighter would cost.

I doubt you’ll be able to do it for less than the cost of an airline ticket since they have so much competition but you could always check.

There have been many tickets under $500 RT this summer. Hard to beat that.
