I am trying to book airfare for D to DC- for the inauguration.
However- cheapo air has some bad reviews- I won’t be going with her so while I want to get the best deal, I don’t want her to be stuck in Dallas instead of Dulles

recent suggestions to save money? she wants to come into DC instead of NYC-

Why spend a small fortune by going when the place will be an absolute frigid zoo and the best seats available in your own living room? A lifetime experience?

Why not wait until the Spring when Washington, DC is actually worth bearing and worth visiting? As a bonus, the Congress will actually start doing something and might be working by then.

D will be staying w one of her best friends who is attending Georgetown and who she hasn’t seen since Thanksgiving, since even though she is home for xmas- Seattle is a complete mess! we don’t salt our streets, the buses aren’t really running anyplace that isn’t flat but the mayor gave himself a B on dealing with snow removal

( she is also planning to be in India for the spring- she has been to DC before and she wanted to leave for India from DC, but I offered to pay for her trip to DC since I wanted to have more time to check out her plans for India)

Cheapoair.com is fine. I used that site without any problem (flew from NY to the Dominican Republic). You should also try kayak.com for a wide search for cheap airfare.

I’d look for a coast to coast fare to avoid the potential challenges of a snowed in Chicago, Denver or Dallas. Try transferring in Atlanta for example. Another alternative might be to fly to NY or Philly and then take the train down

In the winter I think you’re okay with Dallas. I wouldn’t do Chicago or Denver. I’d suggest an overnight out of Seattle–which would connnect to an early morning flight to DC, which would be most likely to get her there.

And I’m jealous. I thought about going for the inauguration–I’d have a place to stay, with relatives–just for the party!

BWI is often the cheapest DC area airport to fly into. There is a train into DC from the airport, (actually I believe you take a shuttle to the light rail station). Both of my D’s will be in DC for the party. Younger one is at American and she and her roomie were planning to camp on the Mall but that is not happening. I think the current plan is that they will stay with my older D at a friend’s house on Capital Hill the night before and walk down if it is not frigid. Yeah they will only see the event on the Jumbotrons but they all want to “be there”. I wish I could go too. My mom and and the friend whose house my kids will be staying at are going to the florida keys. They decided that they did not want to deal with all the crowds.

I agree with the others who suggest flying into BWI. Airfares are expensive though, because prices are increased for this event. What kind of prices are you finding, emerald?

My son will be there too. School doesn’t start till a week later but he wanted to arrive early for the inauguration. He will stay with his aunt & uncle on Capitol Hill.

If you can delay the return flight to Friday, there is an very low fare on American Airlines ($178/$220 w/Taxes.) The return from BWI includes a coast-to-coast JFK-SEA. Outbound flight is via DFW.

Continental has a $187 fare - taxes included.
