cheating on SAT

how do ETS people find a cheaters on SAT??? I know one friend of mine who cheated, supposely he said Air conditioning in the room that he was taking SAT broke out so they had to change the room. fortunately he sat right next to someone who had exact same form and took the test he copy off answers and but not all of them b/c he was afraid that exact same answers will obiously proves that he was cheating so he cirlce wrong answers on purposely and left some question blank he did cheat and never got caught. Will ETS people find out?

OR

is he just being lucky?

I dunno. They probably wouldn’t find that out on their own, to be honest. After all, there are going to be similar patterns between test takers regardless, and I don’t think the scantron will detect that.

If I were you, I’d seriously consider reporting the guy, except, it’s difficult because he could have any tests through college board thrown out, and it might keep him out of some schools. It’s really your call in that department.

Hey maybe the person next to him was not a great person to copy off of, how does he know that person knew the right answers to begin with anyway? what an idiot.

^ exactly ^

ETS probably would not suspect cheating unless you reported him. You can do that without ruining his “career,” since the harshest penalty for cheating dispensed by the College Board right now is cancellation of that particular test score.

Cheating will probably always take place to some extent on the SAT until the test is administered on the computer or test proctors uniformly do their jobs well (i.e., space the desks far enough apart, walk around the room at least a couple of times during each section, watch out for roving eyes throughout the exam, watch out for cell phone use, monitor the hallways during breaks, etc.) (which definitely isn’t the case today).

Person in front of my friend was moving ahead on other sections…

It always happens to some degree and in a way I guess collegeboard can never really catch them all on their own.

it would be very amusing if the person he copied from ended up with a low score…
especially since he intentionally made his score lower…

I get paranoid about people cheating off me on the SAT. Generally, I cover up the answer sheet with my test booklet except for the few seconds when I bubble in the answers once every page. I would hate to think that someone else will be scoring a 2400 merely because he or she copied answers from me.

either way if they catch people cheating from you they will make you take it again. then they will know who the true cheater was:)

You almost sound like you mean it lol.

But my question is, why didn’t they recollect the test before they made you guys switch rooms? That’s the only way to keep the test secure. Then they should have redistributed it when you got into the other room. Poor proctoring, I think. There should have been no opportunity to cheat like that.

Many times during the test I felt that the girl who was sitting at my side was trying to see my answers, maybe I was just paranoid.

I remember in middle school and elementary school, on our state assessment I always went ahead to other sections. In 5th grade, i think i finished the science assessment before we were supposed to be done with the 1st section. Doesn’t really matter though.

All the sections are mixed up tho

Frankly cheating is not good …you should have intigrity and give your best but it is ironic that what counts last is the score, it’s just like love and war sometimes…
