Checking the Native American box

For the most part, I’m Irish, English, and mix of other European ethnicities, and I am a very small percentage Native American. So a few years ago, my mom applied for membership to a tribe in Alabama, the tribe our family was once a apart of, and she was accepted, as well as my brother, sister and I. Do I qualify as Native American when marking the ethnicity boxes on apps and tests?

On your school record what does it have as your ethnicity? That is the best source…

I’m pretty sure if you’re a member of a tribe you can. That’s like official isn’t it? Of course I’m no expert :)

I think that’s bad advise that will bite you in the arse. If white is on your record—you are white. If you have Native American, you are Native American. It is as simple as that.

I’ve never seen my school record. If they are officially designated with the tribe, then I don’t see why not.

That is sad if you haven’t seen your school record. How do you know your GPA then? It’s on there. Ask!

no, my gpa is on my transcript, which doesn’t have my ethnicity. :)

That is weird…my ethnicity is on my transcript:)

if youre part of the tribe than you should be able to check it…or if you dont wanna risk it write about it in one o fyour essays!

If you want to be completely honest, check the multiracial box and then write in “[tribe name]/Caucasian”.
