I’m 16 rn, and am actually starting college in a 2 year transfer program. If I transfer to a UNI in 2 years I’ll be 18 and a Junior. I just want to know if it would still be possible for me to make the Cheer team or a Sorority.
Help?

Many people will rush a sorority as a transfer, but do note: you will have less time in a sorority than someone who was there since freshman year. Making the cheer team is also very possible. You will just need to find out all necessary information a semester in advance (i.e., when are tryouts? Is there a deadline for any scholarships you get for being on the cheer team? Is there material you need to learn before the year starts for auditions?) These are very important questions for you to find the answer to. I really wanted to be in marching band when I started at my university but I missed the deadline to qualify for any scholarship money and hence since it benefit me in no ways at all, I didn’t (moreso couldn’t) do it.
Cheer is usually based on tryouts, and at most universities your class year won’t necessarily matter so much. If you have skill as a cheerleader or gymnast then there’s a good chance you can make cheer if you want. That might be different if you go to a D1 or D2 school with a really good or competitive cheer squad, though.
In theory, you could join a sorority whenever you want. In practice, if you want to join an NPC sorority, some of the chapters at some universities prioritize or prefer freshman (or maybe even sophomores) because they will spend more time in the house supporting the sorority before graduation. However, many don’t, and many will make exceptions if they like you a lot. So definitely participate in Rush - at some places you have to register ahead of time, so when you are in your second year of community college look out for that - and try it!
