Chelsea Clinton's Wedding

I’m glad it’s so secretive. Sure, I’m curious. And I’ll enjoy looking at the post-nup news and photos. But, really, I can do without a big publicity build-up this week.

I’d like a piece of cake, though. If any of my CC friends are going, please sneak one out for me since I’ve been left off the guest list. :(

I definitely agree on the cake. Lately I’m obsessed with cake and cupcakes!

I just would like to see some pics of the happy couple and family afterwards if they allow it to the press. It makes me angry when “we” feel like we are entitled to view these very private occassions.

I love weddings and wedding photos, but I agree with abasket that Chelsea and her husband-to-be are private individuals, and they deserve to have a private wedding.

She’s getting married on MY anniversary! :D

My daughter (21) spent Monday afternoon with Chelsea Clinton (I kid you not), unrelated to the wedding. She doesn’t know her personally.

Happy anniversary, soozievt!

How nice for the Clintons that their adored daughter turned out so well and they are able to share this wonderful milestone with her. That’s truly a blessing.

^^^Thank you, NYMomof2! It’s 33 years for us…

I hope we get to see photos and learn about the wedding details after the fact, as with Jenna Bush Hager’s wedding. It’s fun to learn about an event like this.

I think Bill and Hillary did an amazing job raising Chelsea. She has turned out to be such an accomplished young woman, appropriate in every way and never embarrassing her parents. It must have been hard to grow up in the spotlight as she did. I’m glad she has found someone to marry and hope all goes well at her wedding. Hope there is lots of security.

And soozie, of course we would love to hear more about your D meeting Chelsea… Inquiring minds want to know…

These costs astound me!!!

ABC News breaks down some of the affair’s costs:

Catering: $750,000
Flowers: $250,000
Music: $40,000
Wedding Dress: $15,000
Photography: $35,000
Video: $25,000
Lighting: $75,000 to $100,000
Hair and Makeup: $20,000
Invitations: $40,000 to $50,000
Party Planner: $175,000
Rehearsal Dinner: $250,000
Security: $30,000
Miscellaneous: $50,000 (valet parking, wedding cake, welcome gifts, favors and anything else that’s been forgotten)

It’s her parents’ money and they’re doing a great job for NY’s economy.

I agree. If they’ve got it, it’s nice to spend it and help the local economy. But I’ve heard that extra security is going to be picked up by the local government and that is just not right.

I infer that those costs are estimated assumptions and not hard facts.

True, all that ^^^ and I’m not knocking them for spending it just shocked that ANYONE CAN spend that!!!

“I infer that those costs are estimated assumptions and not hard facts.”

I agree; there are supposedly 500 guests; $750,000 in catering sounds absurd; even for them…do the math…it doesn’t sound feasible to me…

bookiemom, while my daughter was with Chelsea all Monday afternoon, it was totally unrelated to the wedding and so I hate to derail the thread in an off topic way. I mentioned it just because it seemed so coincidental that she’d have been with her that afternoon, the week of the big wedding and it seemed kinda cool. But I don’t want to ignore your question and so I will answer it and then we can get back to our regularly scheduled program!

My daughter graduated a year ago from NYU/Tisch. The two summers prior to this summer, my daughter was the musical director and one of the writers/composers/performers of something called NYU Reality Show. It was put on at Madison Square Garden (this year will be at Radio City Music Hall). The cast and directors work on it all summer and create an original show (new every year) made up of songs and short scenes or monologues, that is extremely entertaining, that centers around wellness issues that students in college will be facing. It has to do with surviving college and also living in NYC. It deals with all the issues that college students will face. It promotes healthy decisions. It is a requirement that every single incoming NYU student, as well as faculty and administrators must attend this production at the opening of the orientation week, and part of the president’s welcome. I’ve seen it and it is a very creative and entertaining way to address issues college kids will face.

I don’t know if you are aware, but NYU is opening a campus this fall in Abu Dhabi. My daughter was asked to be the musical director of the NYU Reality Show for Abu Dhabi’s opening and is also one of the writers/composers/performers and so this summer, the cast (who are all alum for the Abu Dhabi show, whereas the NYC show are current students), they are creating this show which is VERY different than what is put on for NYC campus students. The issues of that cultural society are very different. Major money is being devoted to this show. The NYU Wellness Center overseas the show and the topics and so forth.

My daughter does not know why Chelsea Clinton is involved in this Abu Dhabi production, and is assuming that maybe Chelsea has an internship or some such (she is a grad student at Columbia in health policy) and Chelsea has met with my D’s director (my D ran into her previous to this week at the director’s apartment), but this past Monday, Chelsea attended the four hour rehearsal (well, it is at the creative process right now, writing the material for the show) and Chelsea gave feedback on the topics and so on. She was part of the whole thing that day. My D just doesn’t know Chelsea’s connection to it. I don’t know if she’ll be coming more days. I don’t know if the cast was given any explanation of why Chelsea is involved. It was my D’s first day back at this job, having missed the last two weeks as she was performing in Europe and so maybe it was explained about Chelsea before that day, I don’t know. I just know that Chelsea was with my D and this small cast of alums all afternoon working on the show they are preparing for Abu Dhabi this fall.

Congratulations on the 33 years, soozie! It will be 30 years for us next month.

What an exciting and important project! Will your daughter be going ot Abu Dhabi? I didn’t know that NYU was opening a campus there.

Yes, my daughter will be going to Abu Dhabi to perform this show. Actually she turned down another free trip to Abu Dhabi this past May as they had funded the cast to go visit Abu Dhabi to learn more about the culture in order to create the show to be totally geared to college life in Abu Dhabi. My D had some other very big projects going on at the time so she did not do the visit in May but others filled her in. She is writing songs for the show and the entire cast will be sent to put it on in Abu Dhabi. This is an entirely different show and cast than the one that will be put on at Radio City Music Hall for NYU when school begins this fall.

You should read about NYU Abu Dhabi. It is a new university being set up that is international in scope, drawing students from many countries, EXTREMELY selective. I believe tuition is free.

PS, congrats to you on 30 years!

Regarding the cost of the wedding, Bill Clinton earns a great deal from speaking fees so it’s all relative I guess. In 2009 he earned $7.5million according to CNN.
