Hi I’m a chem major at uci, and i got a 4 on my ap chem test. Does that mean i can’t take 1a with m2la? If so, how am i supposed to take m2la if they won’t let me take chem 1a? Plz help, i’m worried about my future :(

First of all, there’s a forum dedicated for UCI-specific issues:
<a href=“University of California - Irvine - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-irvine/
Also, how do you know your AP score? I thought they didn’t come out yet?

Anyways, the requirements for enrolling in Chem M2LA are pretty clear I think:
http://webster.reg.uci.edu/cob/prrqcgi?term=201492&dept=CHEM&action=view_by_term#M2LA
The requirement is that either you get a minimum of a 4 on the AP Chemistry exam or enroll in Chem 1A. So as long as you meet one of those requirements you’ll be fine. Even if you don’t, just talk to a counselor and I’m sure they’ll make things work for you. Don’t worry too much about these introductory requirements. I (a chemistry major at UCI), for example, didn’t even take the majors or honors general and organic lab sequence and the counselors didn’t care.

I took the test last year ty tho!

If you are unsure of whether you should skip a course for which you are allowed to skip with AP credit, try some old final exams for that course to check your knowledge.

It does appear that UCI will not give you unit or grade credit for courses taken that duplicate AP credit. I.e. if you have a 4 on AP chemistry and then take Chemistry 1A for which that AP score exempts you from, you will not receive any unit or grade credit for it on your UCI transcript (although professional schools may count units and/or grades differently). See the bottom of <a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>http://www.editor.uci.edu/12-13/intro/intro.11a.pdf .
