Chem major from UT in Houston?

would getting a BS from UT Austin in Chemistry be a good idea if i wanted to work in Texas (mainly in Houston)?

Getting a chemistry degree would not be a good idea if you want to work anywhere in the USA. Unemployment is rampant and most of the jobs are permatemp $15-20 and hour no benefits. If you want a chance at a decent job go Chemical engineering or use the chem degree to get into med pharm dental PT or other professional school.

I agree with sschoe2 here. (When I came to this forum not long ago I was much more optimistic about science, and have since changed my own major again out of the field.)
OP, what is your end goal? Chemist or some other pursuit?

If you want to work in Houston then getting a petroleum engineering degree would be a good idea. You’ll get to apply your live of chemistry to oil, and you’ll have great job prospects with a pet. Engineering degree.
