If you want to eventually be a professor which on is a better major?
I’m interested in doing graduate work in materials science (my college doesn’t offer it) and am planning on doing a double major in chem or chemE and Math

For entering academia: neither is better than the other. Both fields need professors.

For getting into MatSE: I don’t know for sure, but I would imagine you could get into that field with either degree. For example, at UIUC, the faculty comes from both ChemE and Chem backgrounds, as well as a sizable number of people out of physics backgrounds and some MechE’s as well.
