ChemE at Michigan

When I visited Michigan last year it seemed that ChemE was one of the weakest engineering programs–one speaker implied people used it as a back up for BME. Also when one of the speakers listed the engineering programs they forgot ChemE. Can someone in engineering at Michigan comment on my perception of ChemE at Mich?

It is not weak by any standard. It is a tough major tough.

It is ranked #12 nationally. I am not sure how that can be considered weak? Perhaps relative to other Engineering disciplines, most of which are ranked between #1 and #8 in the nation.

I mean weak relative to the other engineering majors at Michigan.

why does it matter in any case

ambiguousauthor, all programs at Michigan are strong (ranked among the top 20 nationally). There is no weak department or program, so the perception of all departments at Michigan is that they are elite.

And I am not sure why ChemE would be a backup for BME. BME is related to MechE and EE, not ChemE.
