ChemE: Does it matter?

My question pertains to the overall education a college provides. Is it more important to have a strong program in your major or to have strong core subjects?

For example, I am going to be attending UMN Twin Cities next year with ChemE as my intended major. I am aware that UMN has one of the best ChemE programs in the nation for undergraduate, but (as far as rankings go) they seem to not have as highly ranked math, chemistry, and physics department. Should this be a concern?

Is it more important (education wise) to go to a school with higher ranked core programs (math, chem, physics) or a stronger program in your major (ChemE)?

thanks!

You want to have a program that is strong in your major. The reason schools are highly regarded in math, chem and phys are because the cutting edge research being done there (in those depts) are the best, NOT because they teach the BASICS well.

I agree. UMN TC is a top school for chemical engineering. If I am not mistaken, I think it is in the top 5 nationwide.
