<p>if the professor/research group you wanna work with is small, do you have a better chance of getting into the departments PHD program? I am primarily interested in doing optimization/math modeling related research and at MIT this area is ‘small’ compared to the other ChE research areas: there are just 3 professors conducting research in that area and each of their research groups are small(ie. 3 people)</p>
