My s i intends to be in medical field for his future career. He shows interest in US chem/bio olympiad. He won’t take AP chem or bio until junior year if follows school recommended curriculum, which means he only has one chance (March of his junior year) to win before college application . Is it wise for him to take AP chem or bio in 10th grade by all means so to win one more year of competition opportunity?
He can self study before then. My kid did, as her high school did not offer AP Bio. If his school has a USABO team, maybe he can join to give him some support in studying. I think it is a good idea to take it more than one year, gives them some practice for the next year even if he doesn’t do as well the first year. It is a very tough competition, though, so don’t necessarily expect him to “win”.
