<p>In a different thread, jab93 mentioned Stanford as a “cash cow” for its generous admissions. I am asking whether there are any chemistry depts. that offer M.S. degrees only, whether like Stanfod or not.</p>
<p>No top school (that I’m aware of) offers terminal masters in chemistry… either you commit for the PhD, or they are not interested. The reason why it happens in engineering and not chemistry is that MS degrees in engineering are seen more as professional degrees, and they are in high demand. In the pure sciences, MS degrees are pretty useless… you cannnot do high level pure science research without the PhD, so there is little reason to get just a MS.</p>
<p>A quick Google search confirms that no top 25 chemistry program offers a terminal M.S. in Chemistry.</p>
