I was nominated by my chemistry teacher with another kid at school to compete in this competition in April in D.C. I’m not really sure if it was Chemistry Olympiad but it was hosted by the American Chemistry Organization or something like that. How do you prepare for this test? How is this test and where can I find some sample problems? I’m sure some of you know what I’m talking about it. Is AP chemistry enough or do I have to study more?
Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

As fir chemistry olympiad.

You need some organic chem and laboratory experience. i missed the local section by 1 due to the lack of experience in those two fields.
But um - you don’t compete in D.C…

Sounds like the nat’l exam for Chem Olympiad. The OP says s/he is located “100 miles from the confederate capitol” (Richmond, VA). So s/he might live in a DC suburb. It would make sense for all the qualifiers from high schools in the suburbs around DC to take the nat’l exam someplace in DC.

whoa texas you must be good with measurement or choreography skills. Yeah I am from Fairfax County Virginia pretty close to DC. Anyways how do you study for this test?

I took the Nat. Chem. Olympiad last year and it is considerably more difficult than the Local Exams or AP Chem. I would look over past tests and labs and be familiar with designing your own labs.

Also, if you want, you should study some sections maybe that you haven’t covered yet like electrochem, nuclear chem, organic chem, etc.

altairaqua thanks but none of the links work. How deep is the test? Create your own lab? man that seems tough Would Zumdahl be enough?

Oh i found some links. Anyone who is going to take this go to these links.

Good luck to you all taking this. :)

What’s a good score?? I know a “good score” is relative, but is say getting half of MC right good, really good, mediocre, etc?? My best friend got 5th in state (NJ) for Merck Integrated Science test (with chem on it) and he was awesome in NJ Science League for Chem I and II, and he only managed a 38/60 for MC. We didn’t really prep for this other than what we do for NJ Science League and our AP Chem class in general. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.
