My daughter is going to be a high school senior this year and we are looking into colleges near Albany that have have good programs in Chemistry. We are now looking at New Paltz. Does anyone have any information on the quality of their Chemistry program?

I don’t have any personal experience with the Chemistry program but it looks impressive on the website. My son is a student at New Paltz so I can answer any questions about the school in general. He loves it there.

I thought the website information on the program looked good too. Any general information you can provide about the academic and other qualities of the college would be appreciated. We will probably schedule a visit at this point. Thanks.

The student body at New Paltz is very down to earth and quite diverse in terms of majors and interests. The size at 6,000 undergrads is really perfect - small enough to get personal attention and small class sizes yet large enough to have new people to meet all the time. My son has loved most of his professors and has found them to be very encouraging and accessable. His advisor is the head of his dept. and has been great in helping him choose his schedules. Overall the staff is very warm and welcoming and eager to help. The location is wonderful…90 minutes to NYC, 20 minutes to Poughkeepsie’s malls and the campus is walking distance to the town of New Paltz. There is a very close knit community feeling. The surrounding mountain area is beautiful and my son has taken advantage of some of the hiking, biking and swimming opportunities. He went swimming in a gorgeous lake surrounded by rocks and waterfalls this past semester. Rock climbing, camping, skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding…loads of outdoor activities available. If you have any specific questions I could try and answer. Visiting is the best way to see everything first hand.

Thanks very much!
