chemistry question, help?

can somebody please explain to me why

Ag+ + Br- -> AgBr

is NOT considered an oxidation-reduction reaction?

Because AgBr is an ionic compound, that means that the charge on Ag is still + and the charge on Br is still -. they essentially cancel eachother out, but both Ag and Br have the same oxidation numbers throughout the entire reaction.

This is the most logical answer I can think of, so I hope it helps!

The oxidation number of Ag is +1 on both sides of the reaction. The oxidation number of Br is -1 on both sides of the reaction. Therefore, it isn’t REDOX. However, this would be REDOX: 2Ag+ + 2Br- –>2Ag + Br2

It’s a precipitation reaction.
