what’s the diff b/w CHM 201 and CHM 201A? they are both general chemistry I

is one of them an advanced course?

201, 201A, and 207 are all acceptable for freshmen with non-AP or no chemistry experience. In difficulty, 201 and 201A are probably equivalent; 207 is slightly accelerated but begins in the same place. 201A has a biology concentration; at least, the course description says “the real world examples will be taken from the field of biology.” 207 has a materials concentration, with little mini-units incorporated into the course.

(For those who don’t know, materials science covers strength, structure, and optical/electrical properties of solids and polymers. Naturally, that course is recommended for engineers, but don’t be scared away if you’re not one and you’re interested. I took 207 and really enjoyed it; Prof. Cava’s a really good teacher and lots of fun. Plus, I found the materials components very interesting.)

i took ap chem during my soph yr and got a 5, but i forgot most of it. which chem class do u suggest that i enroll in for the fall semester? (right now i’m planning to be pre-med)

You probably don’t need 201/201A/207 or 202. I’m seriously not the person to ask, not being premed or having taken AP, but I’d guess TurboChem (215) or Orgo… Find a premed and ask them – I don’t want to mislead you.
