I want to know if it’s possible for a minor a cash a cheque. If the minor does not have an account with a bank, is it possible for him to cash the cheque at that bank? If not, where can he cash the cheque?

I’m asking this because I have a cheque that needs to be cashed but I don’t have a bank account because I’m only 16. However, my sister does. Is it possible to use her account? Also, what do I need to present to whomever I’m cashing the cheque from(besides the cheque, of course:)).

What do you mean take it to the original bank it was originally from? Do you mean take the cheque to the person issuing the cheque’s bank? and um…I don’t have a driver’s license. I don’t even have a permit(yes, I’m lazy:))

Endorse it to your sister on the back of the check (there is a spot for this, just say "endorse to -your sister’s name- and sign it). She can then have it cashed or credited to her account and reimburse you in cash.

Theveganactress is right. On the cheque, it should say which bank it’s from. Go to the bank, and show them any kind of ID.
When i went to the bank (i didnt have an account there), i forgot my licence, so they just asked for any kind of ID so i showed them my student ID and they said that that’s fine.

why don’t you just get a bank account? i’m actually shocked that somoene who is 16 doesn’t have one. I’ve had a bank account for as long as I can remember - at least since I was 7 or 8. simply get your parents to cosign.

do you just keep your savings in a sock in a drawer?

My dad and I actually tried to open a CHECKING account when I was 15 but the freaking teller said I was too young. If it’s not a checking account, I don’t want it. I really don’t care about a savings account.

You must be 18 for a checking accout, and basically any age for a saving’s account.

And why don’t you care about savings? There isn’t anything ‘bad’ about having it…if you’d rather keep your money in a sock than at the bank, you’re missing out on security and interest.
