hahaha… Naice~
I got the 321st reply.—>I just realized I was wrong…it’s #322 already…
getting stuck on an academic essay, now appreciating Chicago essay topics…

@ Resolutely

Yes it is my farthest West school! I was thinking about also applying to UWM but it is HUUUUGE. And just not my type of school, which I found out after I did a little more research.

I am applying to UIUC, however. I have an affinity for Illinois and Chicago :3

But the rest of my schools are on the east coast. Applying to Rochester University (Which is actually my second choice school!) and Vassar College as well as Brown U and Princeton U (Just for fun, since I’m 99.99% sure I’ll be rejected flat out) as well as Syracuse U and PSU.

@litlhurry: I’m applying to Princeton U for fun as well!..lol yay~

I don’t have any CA schools on my list…also, only one from Texas and thate rest all on the EAST…

@gatitaz: yes yuyuan garden is the place! and yup i’ve tried that too. i’m not from CA; i’ve never even stepped foot into the states before… so hopefully i will be able to next year.

@litlhurry: go listen to sufjan stevens if you haven’t already! no michigan?

oh no i realise this thread is moving away from it’s ‘chicago’ roots… sorry if this is not supposed to be the case :\ but it’s nice to see where else people are thinking of.

Haha, I knew this thread would suck me in as soon as I started posting. Oh well!

@GatitaZ & Oceanangel: No I’ve never attended an international school, but looking back at theh friends I’ve made I certainly know a few students in Asia. I’ve met and attended various summer programs with people who attend International schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, etc. More than that however, with the shifting economy of the past few years, many many of my friends have moved back to Asia, generally because their parents’ jobs have moved there as well. My father too, considered moving to a city in China for awhile. Sometimes they come back after a year or two, while many stay in Asia. GL GatitaZ, I know it’s got to be tough applying to American schools from such a different environment. Oceanangels, I’m willing to bet that we have at least 1 mutual friend on fb, haha, good luck!

While we’re on the topic of Shanghai, I used to go to Xingtiandi on new years several years and sort of absorb the urban life, while watching whoever they got to come sing (I recall Wang Lee Hom, SHE, and others). This year, I’m planning on spending those days finishing up my common application supplements, but Shanghai is such an amazing city. (Transitioning back to UChicago) I really also enjoy how UChicago has this community feel, even though it is so close to the city. Like, a reason I didn’t choose to apply to certain other urban universities is that the incredible amount of entertainment that exists in the city sort of siphons out the campus community and spirit. I’m definitely not looking for the most spirited schools when I look for colleges, but Chicago definitely offers a close-knit group of people that share this experience of “where fun goes to die” even though they may not share the same ideas.

Well…just got some bad news today…looks like Pitt '14 it is for me barring a financial aid miracle.

motion12345 congrats for getting into Pitt, but don’t lose hope for Chicago, I am wishing for a financial aid miracle for you!!!

I’ll definitely check him out, THANK YOU :D

And no…sadly no…I did check out AnnArbor but…my parents have a thing…against michigan. Say it’s a bad state, no offense to anyone who lives there or anything I’m not good with the geography, but they say Detroit is the worst city in America in terms of danger…and apparently anywhere in Michigan is too close v.v

So yeah, illinois it is for me :/

I was looking into Indiana but nothing seemed to turn up…And NO i’m not going to Missouri…Shudder

@Litlhurry - LOL about the Michigan comment. Actually, I live in a suburb of Detroit and it’s only downtown that’s really bad. Ann Arbor like, pretty much exists for college students. I’ve always wondered what kind of reactions I’m going to get if I go out of state and say I’m from Detroit XD.

@GatitaZ: I’m applying to Hopkins too! Except only cause my dad’s making me. Seeing as how many apps he’s paying for, I felt bad and conceded. But I won’t make any final judgments until after I go visit (if I get in, of course…)

Hi guys! I should have joined this thread a long time ago. I can’t believe that we’re 3 weeks away from decisions!

I’ve gotten into 3 schools so far, and I submitted 2 more apps today, so I feel accomplished and whatnot.

Oh, and my Chicago interview, was the best thing ever! I was on a high for days afterward.

litlhurry–I live right outside of Detroit, and I know it had a really bad rep but trust me, it’s really not that bad. I actually wrote about the whole Michigan stigma on one of my common app essays. You just have to make good choices like not walking alone down 8 mile at 3AM and you’ll be perfectly fine. Ann Arbor, or as my euro teacher calls it, “the people’s republic of Ann Arbor” is exactly the way zakuropanda described it. It’s a great place full of interesting people, but still not the same as Chicago. Why isn’t it December 15 yet?!

phone interviews are weird. I just told my interviewer that i procrastinated on my homework and don’t get it.

Rejection anyone?

Wait what happened?

lol nothing happened. I just had an interview that’s all.

err i have a phone interview soon. How are they weird?

Aren’t interviewers required to submit their reports soon? (My interviewer said in her e-mail that she needed to turn everything in by the 20th). Maybe phone interviews get an extension…

@swimmingvegan: You applied to U of M, I take it? :D

um, personally, it’s really weird for me not to see the person when I’m talking to them. Phone interviews just increase chances of awkward silences. But…yeah…just don’t wear too many layers…since you’ll get really hot…and taking off a sweatshirt doesn’t work out while talking on the phone (trust me on that one).

Yeah I try and avoid phone interviews at all costs.

So glad I interviewed @ Chicago…
No awkwardness, I knew what was expected of me, it was face to face, and, best of all, it was with someone in the admissions department!

I loved my interview! He emailed me that he was only expecting it to take 30 min, but we got to talking and went for an hour and 20 min. He was so nice, and I just kept coming up with questions… maybe he just stayed to answer them. I cam off as really undecided about everything, though, but he seemed to like that. It was waaaaaay different from my MIT interview. Doing the interview for U of C made me really like the school a lot more (now it’s tied in the top three).

I’m definitely in the “I’ll never get in” state of mind, so I’m adding easier schools to my list. Originally, Chicago was a midrange-ish school for me, but now I’m freaking out about all my schools except W&M and my state school.

December can’t get here fast enough. Except that I take my OChem and Diff EQ finals the day before we’re supposed to find out. At least I won’t find out I’m deferred and bomb the finals!

GOOD LUCK!!! We’ll all be fine, no matter the outcome.
