I am by no means a source, motion, but if I think I heard an admissions officer talk about this once. If the effects of time haven’t altered my memory, your regional counselor reads the application. They throw out the ones that have no chance in committee. If you make it past that, then it goes to a second reader (I think). Then it goes to committee (a bunch of other admissions people). They talk about you for a little while and then they vote. My college counselor, who was in the admissions department at a school very much like UChicago, said that they have a board on which they display your stats, then the committee takes about 10 minutes to discuss you, your counselor advocates for your admission, and then they vote.

Motion, I’m applying to WashU! Yeah, I’m sure Chicago doesn’t do a score type thing - Michigan has to do that due to the sheer number of applications.

neogop, are you applying to both Georgetown and Chicago EA? I check both forums regularly (since I’m applying to both) and have noticed you on each of them.

@Romanticism: in short, yes. Since no one, except one other member, knows my identity, then I can say this. Georgetown has always been my #1, and UChicago my #2. Then I visited UChicago. Now they’ve flipped.

I was actually lucky enough to have four out of my eight schools be EA. So, in addition to UChicago and Georgetown, I got to apply to BC and a local Tier II school (safety).

Four EA schools = nice. S1 had three and it was terrific to have two acceptances (his #1 and #3) and a defereal by mid-December. He dropped several apps after that. S2 has two EAs and our flagship has priority decision, which was also due 11/1, but he won’t hear til mid-Feb. If Chicago EA goes well, he’s dropping much of his remaining list.

Hey I had a question about this. Does the first person simply view the Stats or does s/he view the ENTIRE application (including the essays, which Chicago takes very seriously I believe) holistically? Because my GPA is not that good (top 20% only), but my essays, rec letters, and SAT scores are phenomenal. If the process is holistic, I have a chance… and Chicago is my dream school.

That’s great that you have 4 EA schools, neogop. I have three, and I feel that they are a great source of relief in the sometimes overwhelming admissions process.

Yeah, the EA system is great. It’s nice to know that I’ll be in at least once place, most likely two (BC) and hopefully UChicago, Georgetown, or both!

The only bad part about it, is because there are more early schools I’ve applied to, there are more combinations that I can get in, which creates more scenarios for applying RD to different places. Argh.

i used to feel good about my chances at georgetown sfs but people on here keep saying its extremely difficult…checking the stats, the med program is more competitive, tho im sure they take higher level candidates for SFS, i dont think its as hard as people sayy…hopefully

and i keep wanting to feel good about chances at UChicago but i dont wanna get attached haha…and its never a sure thing bout rejection/acceptnce

@ neogp: I have 4 EA schools as well, including BC! It was really nice to just be finished with them by November but now I have to live in fear of december 15… Along with applying to 6 more schools come January 1st if early admission is not my friend…

I’d freak out if the decisions didn’t come until the 24th. The forums last year on early action decisions started on like the 12th/13th I think. It’d be great if they came out that early this year. I’m counting down the days.
