If I say I’m an EA person, do I get cookies? xD

I’m gonna die of anticipation D:

The more days go by, the more hopeful I am of an acceptance D:

Please please please release the decisions by Dec 11th :)

Where did you get the before the 24th part from PB?

I think it’s because no one wants people freaking out over admissions decisions over Christmas- that’d be cruel.

Terp, I’m hopeful, too. I got an email from my interviewer saying that he thinks I’m ready for a Chicago education and that I’d be a good fit. I don’t know how much influence that would have on anything, though. I feel like I have a strong app for chicago, but I wish I had changed the topic of one of my small essays. :-(

Some of my family are into all of that new age stuff, and they keep visualizing me getting in- I hope it works! I’m visualizing a bunch of "Accepted!!!"s on this board. :-)

You think it’ll be ~December 13? That’s what my friend is saying… Do they normally release on the weekend?

I’m actually trying not to get my hopes up haha, even if I do feel like i MIGHT get in, I try to visualize the worst case scenario so my hopes won’t get crushed…

You’re right! They’d rather have them crying because they got rejected/deferred lol :P.

I don’t think they release decisions on the weekend…seeing as their offices aren’t open then. Who knows though.

Also, anyone else whose gotten into a uni, don’t you kinda wish that you didn’t get in so soon? Every time I go to work on college apps, I always think to myself…“ya know, I already have full tuition at a uni. I don’t realllllly have to work on this right now if I don’t want to.” I end up working on the applications because they’re for universities that I really want to go to, but I think I would work much harder on them had I not been accepted anywhere yet (I remember working a heck of a lot harder before I got my first acceptance).

So in my obsessive checking of everything college/UChiacgo related, I found out that no one from my high school with my ACT score (35+) has been rejected from UChicago since 2004, when they started keeping online records.

I suddenly feel much better… even though Chicago is famous for not caring about test scores. And I’m sure they’ve rejected people with perfect scores… maybe they see the name of my school and automatically go “oh, just look at the ACT… these kids are bound to rock anyways” maybe. :)

I don’t know if this will help but at the UChicago Site (https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/admissions/youngerstudents.shtml) and you scroll down, it says “Early Action Decisions” on “December ~15”. I’m assuming the “~” is a way of indicating approximate date time, but I can’t be too sure.

Hm…on collegeboard it says under December 15th, “U Chicago: Deadline for college to notify students of early action.” So, I’m guessing that it has to be by the 15th if collegeboard is right.

Also, turns out that in my Why Chicago essay I wrote 300+ student organizations instead of 400+ >__>.

I’m super nervous - I’m one of six kids from my school that applied early to UChicago. At least two students were accepted two years ago (they both attend) and one more was accepted (at least) last year.

I’m the lowest of all six - there are two valedictorians, and the other three are in the 3.85+ GPA range, whereas I’m around 3.65. I do have one of the higher ACT scores, though, and I’m not interested in science/econ - but rather English & Anthropology, and I have a very positive and extensive writing background (a long resume, most of it independent of the school), something they don’t have. I think my essays were pretty good.

But . . . gah . . . we all tell each other “15 more days!” and such, but we ALL know that we’re competing against each other. And we all have pros and cons to our applications. One of my friends and I were interviewed by the same person! (Eek!)

So, yeah, I’ve become very obsessive with admissions statistics and I’ve kept on looking for a concrete # of how many applicants they’ve received this fall. I don’t know what I’m going to do! Yikes.

Anyways, good luck to you all! 15 days! drumroll

Motion, my why chicago essay didn’t mention anything specific like that. I pretty much said that I wanted to explore and I wanted to be “unsettled” by my education. I also talked about the combination of science and liberal arts. I didn’t mention the scav hunt or statistics because it wasn’t me to talk about those things (It’s totally cool if that’s a “you” sort of thing to do). I’m truly interested in chicago for the reasons I stated, not for the statistics. yeah, I want to do scav hunt, but it isn’t the defining factor of why I applied early.

I’m sure a little mistake (it’s still a true statement!) isn’t going to hurt you. I think it’s more about the spirit of the essay and trying to express your attraction.

My only concern is that I wrote short essays (about 250 words) because I thought they wanted me to keep it short. Hopefully, they won’t think I wrote them last minute or just didn’t care enough to write a long essay. Aaaaah! The stress!

Anyways, it’s all done now. All we can do is send good vibes to Chicago and hope they liked our essays.

^I split mine up into two halves: one was basically the same as yours and the other was about scav hunt/activities.

Hello all! I recently got a job as in retail and I am not sure if I should update that in my account. I don’t think it will influence my application, and I don’t want to seem like a nuisance with only two ish weeks until decisions, but I’m not sure whether I should mention it or not because the common app asks for work experience and whatnot. Advice would be greatly appreciated:) Thanks!

@ wej
You aren’t competing. Trust me. Unless you have TONS of kids applying from your school, they won’t say, “Oh we have too many kids from such and such school, we can only take [insert arbitrary number here] of them.” If you don’t get in, it’s because your performance in high school was not up to UofC’s standards. However, if you attend the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (which will send in ~200 apps to UofC)… that’s the kind of school where they will cut down on how many kids they admit. Granted, UChicago might not accept all 6 of you EA for fear of getting another batch of stellar kids in the RD round and then having 20+ kids from your school… that might be a bit much. But my college counselor told me that for a school our size, about 100 per grade, we aren’t competing against each other in the admissions office, we’re competing against their standards.

From California here…looking to major in English perhaps?

We all find out SO SOON!!

Neogop, that’s really nice to hear because the apps to Chicago from my school about tripled or so. X_X I only know of one more person applying RD for sure though… I have such a love-hate relationship with December 15th right now…

Well, I was reading some articles in the Maroon, and I stumbled across some of last year’s admissions articles. They had a story that reported the number of early applicants on December 2nd, so they might be releasing their figures in the days to come.

My girlfriend of two years dumped me today This is not a good start to this month…hopefully I hear something positive from Chicago but I doubt it :(

Aw. I’m sorry man.

My condolences. Hopefully you’ll have some good news soon. Keep your chin up man!
