Chicago Transfers 2007!

Only 7 months to go! The application has been up for a little while now. I’m still thinking about the essays and will probably save Chicago’s for last so I can give it the most time. We can use this thread to keep each other on track, especially since this is the first time I’ll ever be applying to a college! Who else is applying?

Current College: Montgomery Community College
GPA: 4.0
SAT/ACT: 2220
Recs: great, one from my congressman
Applying: Early Action

Time to get outta here! Who else is as excited as me?

hey you go to Montgomery community college? It’s near the woodlands right? by houston.

holy crap yes…lol

please explain how you know where this random CC is at.

I went to Houston when I was 14 to visit my relatives there(they live in The Woodlands, more specifically), during some days my aunt would take me to Montgomery College’s library to kill time. I remember the library having 2 stories! lol. What else do I remember about it…I vaguely remember that there were a lot of trees, and there was like a pond or fountain thing in the front of the school.

Lol really…hmmm. The library only has one story now, but it is in a three story building so maybe they did some renovating. Yes there are a ton of trees everywhere and there is a fountain out front. I can’t believe you’re for real…that’s crazy.

Poor you…MoCo’s library isn’t much of a spectacle to behold and the local Conroe library has more books IMO. Haha…oh well, at least you got to burn some time with your aunt.

Haha, proof that I’m not lying :p

I never even knew I would still remember that place! Lol. Houston is nice, so many trees. I remember going to the NASA place, we also went to this historical site, I forgot what it was called, it had an old steamtrain that’s all I remembered, and a lot of visits to new houses since my Aunt was a realtor.

But I ended up feeling really homesick(I live in california btw) because for most of the time, we just stayed in my aunt’s house, and my cousin who is the same age as me, would never really talk to me. He goes to UT San Antonio now, is that a good school? I don’t know too much about the Texan school system.

By the way good luck with the schools you are applying to, your stats are really good. I am assuming you are applying to other schools too other than Chicago right? What other schools are you applying to?

Nah UTSA isn’t a good school. Lol…just being honest. UTSA is where everyone that didn’t get into UTA goes and then transfers to Austin. You’re very lucky to live in California - the opportunities there are incredible.

Thanks for the good luck. I’m applying to quite a few schools but they’re all “back ups” to Chicago, even if some are harder to get into. Umm…UTA, Wesleyan, Brown, Penn, most likely Michigan, NYU, Georgetown, WUSTL…and some others not really sure. Like I said, this is my first time to ever apply to a college (since at a CC, if you can breathe, you’re accepted) so I want to go all out and not miss anything. At least I know UT will take me.

Are you at UCLA?

My other cousin(his sister) went to UTA, I hear it’s a good school, crazy party school too that’s what I heard supposedly.

I’m not really an expert with out of state schools and privates but your stats are really really good, and really, how often does someone get a letter of recommendation from the congressman?! Do you work for him/her or something? Oh and what are you majoring in?

California is great! I love it. I go to a community college now and I am applying in a few months, just like you. And I am just as excited! My first choice is UCLA, second would be UC San Diego. But by all means, I only want to go to UCLA, lol, I am so stubborn. It’s only 20 miles away from where I live. But I would probably get an on-campus apartment/suite if I get accepted. I am just ridiculously obssessed over UCLA. I love Los Angeles and I would never want to move out of here, well I haven’t been living here my whole life(I lived in Malaysia), but I have to say this is the best place for me. Maybe I should consider USC but the requirements are so different from UCLA, there’s just no way I can fit it into my schedule for the two years I am in the CCC.

yeah UTA is very crazy…whole lotta parties and Austin is basically the perfect college town. I’m going to be doing an internship for Kevin Brady in the spring (wanted to do in fall but too busy of a schedule) so I’ll get one from him…that’ll be cool. I was always interested in UCLA and Berkeley, but OOS transfer is harder than some private schools. What are you majoring in? UCLA is an amazing school and you can’t beat it for the price. UT is also very good, so I’m happy with the price and the education that is basically guaranteed to me, but I’m definitely going to give a bunch of crazy difficult schools that I like a shot.

I’m the same way as you…I really want to live on campus. Only like 20% of UT students live on campus, but most live around in apartments. I really wanted the “college” residential experience where you wake up and can practically walk to class.

That’s what’s great about state schools, and I am glad UCLA is so close to where I am now. I’m currently going for Global/International Studies plus pre-vet requirements. From what it seems I might be staying in undergrad for at least five years because of all these crazy load of classes I need to take. I kind of want to minor in English or French but I am not too sure how that’s going to fit in. What’s your major?
When I see so many people on this forum wanting to move to California just to establish residency and attend a UC, it made me feel really grateful that my parents decided to move here.
At first I was thinking maybe commuting would seem okay but from what I hear from UCLA students they say commuting is terrible and a waste of time. Definitely a great thing to be able to wake up 10 minutes before class even starts! Thing is it’s quite expensive to stay on-campus for UCLA. And I want to stay as debt free as possible.
My parents were actually considering moving to Houston, that would be crazy if I somehow ended up in Montgomery College at the same time as you :stuck_out_tongue: Oh and isn’t UTA like the biggest public school in all of US?
Go longhorns!

lol ya that would be…I like MoCo. It’s served me well so far and I believe the North Harris Community College System has the most graduates in Houston, if not Texas. You are lucky your parents moved there though…if I had known when I first started, I would have tried to go to De Anza (is that what it’s called) or one of Cali’s incredibly good CCs. Yeah I believe UTA is the biggest public school in the US…I’m not sure, it may be the biggest university in the US - period. It is really nice to know UT is only like 15k a year, but I really want to get out of Texas. Been here all of my life so I wouldn’t really feel like I’m exploring a new environment in college…I’d be willing to take out some big loans to go to the top schools on my list. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do after high school, but I’m actually glad I’m at a CC now which costs a/b $1600 a year. That’s insanely cheap so now I can basically go 2 years at a top private university and come out about the same as if I had gone to UTA for four years. America’s great.

About the housing deal, if I were you I’d go for the extra debt and do it. This is basically the only time in your life that you really get to feel like part of the campus and I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to wake up every morning to a school of thousands of students and walk to class. I can’t wait for the day, wherever I end up.

Well this has become quite the interesting thread. Lol. I didn’t imagine I’d find somebody that knew a/b MoCo or even the Woodlands.

I don’t guess anybody else is applying to Chicago…or maybe it’s too early to know.

You actually want to move to IL? :shudder:

I am trying to leave Illinois myself.

Good luck.

Haha…well you actually want to move to Texas so I guess it goes both ways. After living in the extreme heat for my entire life with no real winter, I’m ready to move north. I’ve been to Colorado and I loved it…I’m sure Chicago is colder, but I can handle it. Besides, Colorado doesn’t have too many good schools other than CC.

Good luck new transfers!
I’m sure 90% of you will get into the college of your choice!
