Chicago?

I’ve been reading such disturbing articles about the violence in Chicago recently. Can anyone offer any insight into the why of the situation and whether the news coverage is providing an unrealistic portrayal of the situation?

I wish I could tell you why all the violence is occurring, but it seems to be drug/gang related. The number of children that are involved in the violence is staggering.

Last year 700 students were involved in gun incidents.

Look at our former Cook County Public Guardian Patrick T. Murphy’s books. What he said would happen, is happening.

If you are talking about the so-called liberal failures, then why has there been a decrease in violent crimes nationally? Other cities have done a better job of keeping kids from killing kids. Welfare as we know it doesn’t exist and public housing in Chicago has been turned upside down in the last 10 years. And he derides programs meant to keep the family together- when most family advocates (and social conservatives) don’t want to see the governement split up families. While I admire him for his work wit the most abused children, I have seen too many families broken up for being poor, or Native American, or black rather than for abuse. He is a hero to the worst, but those evils exist in all parts of the world, even behind gated walls.
