Leaning towards Chico. Which has the better value? Chico at a total 15 grand per year compared to ASU’s 30 grand per. Chico is also about 3.5 to 4 hours away from home while ASU is a plane flight away. I’m thinking that there isn’t much of a difference and the debt would not be worth it.

Depends what you want…

ASU -Huge school, good sports, HOT, great SALT program, good business school.

Chico-small college town environment, smaller than ASU, working hard on changing the party school image.

What will you major in?

All the kids I had last year that went to Chico are really enjoying it and are doing well. I don’t have anyone that went to ASU. I’m assuming you’re in-state CA…In my opinion, between these 2 schools, ASU is NOT worth the extra $15 K. Go to Chico.

Also, If you qualify… No Cal Grant if you go to ASU.

Save your money and go to Chico.

But, and I say this as one average white male to another, I think the women are hotter at ASU. ;)

Ya, I’d do better going to a smaller school rather than just another number, also wouldn’t mind going home every few weekends. As for the Cal grant, I have a low GPA (2.3 or so). Can I still apply for a Call Grant B? My family isn’t in poverty but have a large mortgaged house, they make a total of about 120,000 but bought a house 3 years ago when the hosuing market was crazy.

I’m gonna throw out another option to you… and it’ll be a lot cheaper for you too…have you considered going to a good quality community college? Now, before you balk, hear me out…you can get your lower division coursework finished, and depending on how you do in CC, you can transfer to a UC, USC, or a Cal State in a couple years.

Living in California is fantastic, because we have a great higher education system. I highly recommend a California community college for students that don’t have a strong feeling for what they want to major in, don’t have the strongest grades, and if they’re worried about finances, etc.

I say this just as another option for you.

I’m unfamiliar with the Cal Grant requirements.

Good luck!

I really think going off to college would be good for me. I applied undeclared but am thinking towards nursing and I believe Chico’s is pretty strong.

^ Cool. My cousin just graduated from nursing at SDSU…no problems getting a job!

Fill out the FAFSA by March 2nd or sooner and designate Chico as a recipient. Your gpa meets the 2.0 requirement but they also measure your parents income.

If Chico works for you, then go there.

I love communty college for kids that are sitting at a 2.5 and really want to go to UC but don’t qualify. The transfer GPA is often a full grade point lower for a transfer (somewhere around a 3.3 for CAL last fall) and it is much cheaper. IMO, Santa Rose JC is one of the best JCs around.

Good luck. Nursing is a tough one but well worth the work!

I second Chico.
