Based on the fashion advice she’s provided on this forum and the links she has provided, I’ll add our own @BunsenBurner. You should start a blog!
I must be too boring. I went shopping at one of my usual haunts and the sales woman I’ve known for years said I thought you might try this, even though I know own you don’t like prints. I’m like sure I do! But I must not, I don’t own anything I wear that has a print. I’ll do a stripe or a little swirl but I pretty much just wear solids and accessorize.
I hardly own prints either…just talking about this with a friend a week ago. IT seems in the winter I do the solid basic colors, then use the print in a scarf. I made a pledge that I was buying colors when I go shopping for any type of tops.
I wear lots of prints and plaids.
Thanks, @nottelling :"> I am a good student of @Alumother
I have quite a few prints in my closet, but they are mostly DVF dresses and summer stuff. I try to avoid things that turn heads, but I did succumb to a Kate Spade cat-print blouse, and that blouse was the target of many compliments.
Re style icons: Cate Blanchett always looks great in photos at formal events.
@BunsenBurner I agree, you should do a blog! And how about @Gourmetmom too! A few others besides:).
Oh yes!.. @Gourmetmom is my style mentor, too! I always think of her when I put my feet into my Ferragamos.
Isn’t it funny that the Dressing Young thread began with discussion of Chicos?
No. I don’t care in the least. All that matters is that YOU like them.
That’s the point. I think that the idea of refusing to shop at a store where you like the clothes because some of the customers are “too old” or don’t share all of your tastes is ludicrous.
BTW, I adore Ferragamo shoes. Back in the day I always had three good pairs of shoes in my desk drawer: one black, one brown, one taupe. The black were Ralph Lauren spectator pumps, the brown were Ferragamo, and the taupe were Joan and David.
I don’t have a celebrity muse. But not being corny, I might have to say that one of my fashion “muses” is @MOWC and others. Hearing and seeing what she wears to work, etc. gave me the permission I needed to adopt a new style of dress for my everyday life at work and home - it’s the way I wanted to dress, but amidst a lot of people who well, DON’T put any thought into dress at all (it seems) I was afraid to make the step.
I don’t know that I dress “typical” but I know now that it’s right for ME!
Agree, abasket. MOfWC perfected the “athletic office casual” look.
Speaking of athletic casual…

In my closet today.
^^^ So, so cute! Is that denim soft?
Im sorry if this thread has offended you in any way, Consolation.
abasket, yes, it is super soft with a touch of Lycra, just enough to keep it from stretching out and wrinkling. I have another dress in that denim… so comfy.

I wear it with a leopard print scarf.
Haha - Ok, I might fight you over the dress but not the leopard print scarf - I don’t do animal prints!!
The “leopard print” is actually leopards hanging on tree branches. I also wear it with Zabavushka scarf and Michelangelo print scarves.
Omgoodness bunsen is my muse. I have been looking for a denim dress for 3 months. Thanks for the link! Love it.
I love that dress!
Thanks abasket and bunsen. I am NOT creative or artistic, but I have accidentally fallen into a style that works for me. I get lots of compliments and questions at work about where I get my clothes. It’s fun and I enjoy it. I also like to get more mileage (pun intended) out of my expensive Lulu and Oiselle athletic clothes by being able to wear them to work. It helps that I work for a niche company in a casual (to say the least) industry. We ARE the corporate office, so it’s not like I’m out in the woods, but it still is a casual culture. Whenever we have “jeans” days (Fridays and now until the end of the year) you better believe I’m in jeans and boots! Besides that- I live in the Nashville area. Country chic!
I am sure that denim dress would be cute on the right person. On me, I would look like a sack of potatoes. I think it’s all about knowing what works best on yourself. I wish I could wear some of the things MOWC does, but they’d look silly on me with my build and “look.”
For shoes, I love the Repetto ballet slipper look. I pretend I’m Audrey Hepburn :-). But it’s definitely a certain look.
I’ve never really mastered the scarf thing. I’d love an Hermes scarf one day.
