Child abuse

I was reading this online and I’m wondering if its right for obese children to be taken away from parents and charged with child abuse… it seems wrong.

[S.C</a>. case looks on child obesity as child abuse. But is it? - USATODAY.com](http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/weightloss/2009-07-20-obesityboy_N.htm)

555 pounds before age 14? If that’s not child abuse then I don’t know what is. I couldn’t imagine being that big and if I was I would have seriously contemplated suicide.

There’s a difference between having a fat child and having a child that weighs three times as much as an adult man at 14 years of age. Something clearly went wrong in the parenting process if the latter happens.

If a kid is morbidly obese- not just overweight- then yes, that’s definitely child abuse. I don’t care if she’s trying to help her child lose weight now- what was going on when he was gaining all that weight?

I don’t know if it’s “abuse,” but I would definitely say that the parents are unfit to be raising a child. If she was truly doing “everything she could do to help him lose weight,” then clearly he needs to be under someone else’s care. He could die being that heavy.

yes, abuse requires malicious intent, in my opinion. If she was simply incompetent that isn’t her fault, though in extreme cases it might mean her child needs to be taken away.
