<p>I usually lurk quietly in this forum, but frankly I am too appalled to be quiet. Reversing gender discrimination is not going to make any progress towards eliminating it; it will only create hostility, and set a precedent that it’s okay to discriminate against people based on their sex.</p>

<p>At first I thought it was meant as a tourist site (i.e. Disneyland) but after reading it again, I’m not so sure. And where are they going to find enough men willing to visit, let alone live or work there…?</p>

<p>I think that some of this article may have gotten “lost in translation”.</p>

<p>China is building all kinds of model villages as tourist attractions. They all highlight some aspect of stylized Chinese traditional culture. For example, the government is building “New Socialist Countryside” villages where tourists can spend a weekend in fancy guest houses experiencing “authentic” rural life. In concept, these may not be such distant relatives of Williamsburg or Jamestown Settlement (or the entire state of Vermont, for that matter). However, in translation they sound a little more off the wall than they may really be.</p>

<p>It’s very difficult to view China through U.S. prisms.</p>

<p>interesteddad, agree with you on this one. Lost in translation for sure. I have spent some time there and the translation isn’t straightforward.</p>
