Chinese Thread

Hey Utoyxc, nice meeting you.
From what you said, you past school experience gave you a shiver in which you would prefer going to work for twelve hours a day than doing scholastic thingy. Have you ever gone to work in Chinese restaurant? If you are a cashier or a waiter, then it will be an easy task. However working in the back is different story. Can your feet handle the pressure of standing all day long? Are your hands quick and strong enough to constantly(Well, not constantly, but for a long time) chop and pick up heavey stuff? I almost cut off my index finger when I was cutting celery. I have looked at my dad’s hands and feet, I can tell you it’s not a pretty sight. :)

I know that there are a lot of workloads in Chinese schools. I had been there. I went to school six days a week. Woke up at six and went to school at seven. I had to learn a lot of stuff, such as Chinese, Math, Natural Science and etc. I got off at five, finished my homework and dinner, and went to sleep at nine. That was just Elementary School. I know if I get to Middle School or High School, there will be more workloads. Luckily, I moved to America when I was in third grade. I would prefer being worn out by schools than works. Confucius, a great Chinese philosopher, once said," One must constantly yearns for knowledge. To play and not learn is a dangerous thing." (Not sure if that’s the exact aphorism, but you get the meaning) The way you felt about school is understandable considering you have been constantly plagued by overloads of school works.

Sorry if my above statement offends you in any way. No harm was intended. :)

Now, let me respond to JinFX’s post.
Even though I wasn’t a pugnacious person, some of my friends were. One time they challenged couple American Kids to a fight in the park, no weapons involved. There were about twenty Chinese people and only 8 Americans. Of couse, they ran away in the end. Being a gang can be a good thing some times. When somebody mess with you, you know that you have your gang to help you beat the living hell out of those bas…s.

I don’t know about New Jersey or Indiana, for what I know, there were a lot of racial fights in my old high schools. Those Americans, blacks and whites, liked to pick on Chinese kids because they looked so easy to pick on. Some would just go away from the disturbance. However there were some who were just sick and tired of being constantly picked on, a fight then became inevitable. Of course, other Chinese kids helped during the fight. I never participated because fighting is against my belief.

The worst school in New York has to be Lafeyete (Don’t know if I spell that one correctly). That’s a school where they put all the unwanted bad students together in one place. It’s never safe to walk in the hallway by yourself. The Chinese World’s News’ Journal described that school as a living hell for all those who are not black or white.

Now back to the Chen story.
Yeah, Chen is definitely healing his wound. He has gotten his green card and attended several years of college. However in the report, it said that he’s back to working again. I wish he can spend more time with improving his education. He seems like a student who would make others jealous if they are in the same class with him. If everything goes alright, he will get over his parents’ arrangement to get him to America.

One thing I would like my parents to arrange for me right now is my marriage. I am too much of a nerd to have a girl friend. I know my parents have good eyes on picking a pretty girl for me. Hopefully, I don’t need my parents to do that. Let’s see if I can get a girl friend in the next four years in College. I know I am a sore loser. I am a total idiot when it comes to girls. I still have about then years before my parents go nuts about me starting a family. I don’t want to be a loner for life. Research showed that family guys tend to live longer than those bachelors.

:) ;)

idk, i’ll just leave marriage to destiny… yea i m a romantic

haha, the topic changed really quick!

idk it felt rather flowing

omfgbbqlol

anybody in Ivy league here?

lots of chinese here!!!

ivy ppl i know dont come to CC

I don’t even know anybody who attends or is going to Ivy League in real life. I am sure that some Chinese students in this forum are in Ivy League.

Okay, lets start something new.
Has anybody read the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown? I just spent last three days reading that one hell of a good novel. It took me two months to get Da Vinci Code as there were a lot of people requesting it in the public library. I can see why so many people have frenzy about that novel. When I started reading it, I just can’t put it down, just like the time when I read Harry Potter series. If you haven’t read it, I strongly recommend you to give it a try.

I am waiting for the DVD version of the Da Vinci Code to come up. I prefer owning a personal DVD than watching it in the public theater. :)

One more thing. Has anybody seen 霍元甲? I am a huge fan of Jet Li. I have literally seen almost if not all of his movies, ranging from his early years up to now. One of my favorite definitely has to be his performance as Huang Fei Hong. Nobody played that role better than Jet LI. :)

if i seen 霍元甲, i wouldnt know it… names movies and other one time things are so hard to remember

yea i guess the movie is selling the book… i read it a long time ago and it came the weekend after i requested it… it was ok… nothing really special… i guess the popularity comes from the tie-in to christianity, and alot of ppl, being christians, care about that

The only Chinese stuff I watch are like Chinese soap operas. Some are surprisingly fun to watch lol. I generally like either martial arts or historically based ones. Cheesy modern romance drama gets pretty stale.

I ain’t really into any Chinese drama. about music, i think Jay Chou is the best. but generally I like almost anything that looks/sounds/smells/feels good, so yea, you get the idea…

i like Chinese drama, HongKong movie, and the occasional taiwan soap thats on ch18

fighting is good if it has style, like Zhou YunFa and Jackie

historic drama is good just cuz i really dont know any history, outside of what i learn from tv

but a lot of historic tv drama is so not base on real history,my history teacher hates them so much.
anybody like korean tv shows or american ones? my friend is so hooked with prison break.

hey sup wudan, how are the recs going?

american comedy / sitcom is good, idk about the other stuff tho

korean stuff is cool, but stm theres a culture barrier or sth and i get lost

yea thats y i really dont know history

oh, have not writen them yet.

korean stuff is cool, but stm theres a culture barrier or sth and i get lost
JinFX , how come you get lost?
korean culture is very close to chinese culture,so how many years have you been in U.S.? is that y u find there is a culture barrier?

yea i came here when i was 6
