My sis is doing medicine in the US and there was no problem.

As long as you don’t intend to stay there and work I guess it’s ok.

thank you for your reply intlcher~
i can tell the officer that im not gonna stay in the states forever~
but how?
coz someone told me that itz hard for an officer to believe that ppl studying medicine would go back to home country~coz it takes at least 10 years to study medicine~
how did your sis do that? did she claim that she was going to do medicine when she met the visa officer?

Yes, she told them she was going to do medicine. I think she just did the normal procedures. There were no problems at all.

If I’m not mistaken there’s an interview so if you need to tell them that I guess you could do it there.

okkk.
it sounds so different from what i heard from others.
but it’d be soooo good if itz like what your saying.

thanks IntlCher!

i’d suggest you go to mitbbs.com medicine board to seek help as there are more people planning or are attending medical schools in the US. There should be more people who can share their experience with you. Never mind if you’ve already done that.

and Happy New Year!

thanx yryuan23!

It’s insanely hard for international students (w/o green card or citizenship) to get into med school. And it’s true that once you are in, you probably won’t go back to china or whever to practice medicine after 4 yrs of med school and 2 or so years of residency.
What is your proposed major? If it’s biology or biochemistry or something, can’t you just tell the imigration officer that you are pursuing the major for research and intending to going to grad school, or coming back after undergrad?

wow so many people and so many congrats… didnt cc go down?

anyway… all i have to report is i didnt get all As in community college

thank you for your advice, yy0712~
my proposed major is chemistry. so you mean i don’t have to tell the immigration officer my goal of being a doctor?~and it’ll be safer for me to tell going to grad school after undergrad?~
im too new for this stuff…so…any help will be highly appreciated!~

no, you can certainly still aim for med school. i’m just saying that if i were you, i’d tell the immigration officers that my major is chemistry and nothing about being a doctor or med school. If they ask what my plan after graduation is, I’d say ‘I don’t know at the moment.’ and maybe add ‘but most likely coming back to work.’

(just letting you know, i’m new to this stuff too and probably know much less about this than you do)

gluck

Hope it’s not tooooo late…

hey kyky,as for your problem,it’s not a problem at all.i’m studying medicine, well, kind of,more bio but i might go to med school, and initially i thought i wanted to study communications and i told the immigration officer that.so make up something.they know undergraduates change their major every day.

I speak Mandarin (writing and reading skills quite poor) and was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
