no i don’t. and stop bugging me…i’ve got to get beyond the first paragraph of this essay…it’s due in 10 hrs! :D

Hey help me out on application to stanford.
I was born in china, lived there for 10 yrs, then moved to singapore where I learned English at age 10, moved here to the US when I was 13. On the stanford application, the admission officer would see that I’ve been here for 4 years and that I have a dual citizen with singapore. I might slip in my essay something about learning at 10… maybe not…

So should I take the toefl? From my perspective, I have no accent and my english teacher is writing a recommendation letter and she thought that I was born in the US from the way I speak. And my debate coach is writing a recommendation letter too… so there’s speaking…But I’m really not sure what she’s gonna write…
But heck maybe the admissions would suspect my 690 verbal on the SAT and low 8(out of 12) score on SAT essay as a weakness in english…
So I don’t know if I should take the toefl?

im so sad! i had perfect sat ii writing but really bad sat i verbal am i verbally challenged?

if u wanna take it for fun, take it… it wouldnt make THAT big of a difference. learning at 10 is NOT late. if u learned, initally, at 14, that would be late. but 10… it only takes 2 years to get totally adjusted. and that’s when actual writing really starts. +, many people who take toefl are, like, in nonenglish speaking countries i.e. china, so even if they started at age 7, they’d still be bad at english. if u live in u.s., that’s completely different.

of course… if you want to take it, u can. how about retaking your SAT and improving on your verbal instead?

You came here when u r 13. wow. i came here last year. so should i take tofel? then y would i prepare for the sat.

toefl is so damn easy.it really won’t hurt u to take it!

its like taking the SATII for chinese… i dont think it makes a difference in terms of admissions. of course if you REALLY want to, you could, but out of a score of 10 (hypothetical admission score), it’s probably gonna raise your score by 0.001. so. your choice.

but stm its a requirement right?

and if its not a requirement, it dont matter cuz they will look just at ur sat… which i hope isnt that bad cuz i got the same thing…yo…i feel weak now…gotta hang on for sat2 tmr…

I don’t think you’re required to take TOEFL if you’re U.S. citizen and has lived here since 13. So…don’t waste $$ on TOEFL

I’m new here, s I should be asking a lot of questions. If I’m doing anything wrong please notify. And just want to thank everyone for the future help that may come.

wow naturallyjojo - I was born in China too and went to Singapore at age 6 and came to US at 10, and just submitted EA to Stanford a few days ago ^_^. alot of coincidences…

You’re way a head of me. Just a junior here so… I’m very interested in studies of chemistry and math, so, so far I plan for Chemical engineering in college. Would you have any advices for me?

welcome l-c and purrli! good luck to you both!

L-C, UIUC might be noteworthy for ce, check it out if you haven’t already. But other than that, just do solid work in hs and take the standarized tests as early as possible. And try to figure out unique things about you that’s different from all other engineering applicants.

saturday night. i have to do schoolwork. my life sucks. sucks. sucks. sucks. i cant believe i did this.

Same here…soooo much work!!!
I wasted my whole day…actually I went shopping so that’s not really wasted, but still…haven’t really done anything that I should have been doing.

Welcome, L-C! Where are you from? Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

o man…let’s not talk about hw…
lol.

Well…moved from Taiwan to Indo when I was only a couple months old. And been studyin in a small school since. And now, extremely irritated with my regions lack of resources for colleges, etc. and horrified about my senior year.

does anyone know the number of undergaduates from China at Princeton?
And what are the typical numbers of chinese undergraduates at ivy league schools? (chinese citizen, not chinese american)

if i remember correctly, princeton accepts a bit less than 100 intls total (foreign citizens; so including green card holders) each year (about 50 ed and 50 rd). so i would guess the number of chinese intls would be somewhere near the high teens/low twenties?

yay, school tomorrow where did my whole weekend go?

what about stanford? in terms of int’s

Wasted the whole weekened,AGAIN. I miss my bio book. haven’t touch it for, umm, couple weeks. i m a loser on weekened.lol.
