i’m back.
you guys continue enjoying this thread

alwaysfaithful, difference is in the intention. Mao (and his cronies) prosecuted many politicals rivals and intellectuals during the Cultural Revolution. However what he didnt do is systematically murder hundreds of thousands of people. His policies led to alot of deathes yes. But there is a reason that manslaughter is different from murder.

the Great Leap Forward era is definitely not a pleasant topic to talk about in most Chinese families b/c so many ppl died during that period. However, it’s not proper to say all these ppl were murdered by Mao. I don’t even think you can say that’s a crime. yes, Mao is the one who started all that crap, but his intention was not bad. I am not sure about the reason, but basically Mao copied what Soviet Union did and tried to make China more powerful. Maybe he tured to the left? I don’t know. Anyway, what happened was things worked in SU didn’t work in China. However, most regional leaders didn’t want to fall behind others. therefore, they made up all the false numbers of the progress. the senior leaders in the communist party weren’t aware how the policy was carried on in the regions either. In other words, they were isolated from people. (it’s easy to understand how they were isolated if you know how those emperors were isolated from people in the old time. you may also notice that, the policies announced in the center can’t be carried on in the regions correctly and effectively. this problem didn’t just exist in the old time, didn’t just exist during the Great Leap Forward, but also exist right now. I hate to, but have to admit it. Maybe this is the typical downside of Chinese ppl.) Anyway, when the senior leaders learned what was going on, it was too late already. Generally, it was not ONLY Mao’s fault. the death of so many ppl was due to the ignorance of all the isolated senior leaders, the irresponsible acts done by the regional leaders, and the trend of crazy thought prevailing at that time in the society.

yea the #s were cooked… the prob was the CCP didnt have an economist

and at the time, the world didnt have a good economist at all, but the US had the closest thing…

u cant actually say ignorance if nobody knew better…its a step in progress

w/o the CCP, where would we be right now? better or worse is really hard to say

look at korea, the north was so good compared to the south in the 60-70, but since the 80s, the south is alot better than the north

and u cant say o china would have been a computer superpower like taiwan is now… the thing is Jiang was a dictator and losing had softened him, and even then only when he died did taiwan get anywhere… in fact, taiwanese ppl r proud of Sun not Jiang, if Jiang won, China could be hell, or it could be pretty cool…

but at least right now, China is not that bad, not nearly as bad as what the Nationalist and the CCP were created to change

and Mao had a huge part in this growth…progress…or if u r of the opinion…ruin

howdy everyone. wow. interesting topic.

jiang was not pretty cool… he was too corrupt and had no heart. he was probably smart and intelligent… but too cold. so yeah… china would be in hell. there was this one incident they always write about in chinese history books: GMD was in a war with i forgot whether the japs or CCP, and they ran out of amunitions… so some guy i forgot his name but was a generalishranked guy called for airplanes to get more ammunitions… but he gets replies that all the planes were “busy” and not in service or couldnt do it… turns out they were busy transporting high official’s personal properties (children’s toys… etc) out of china into taiwan. the generalishrankedguywhomiforgotthenameof got ****ed and joined CCP

I AM SOO SLEEPY.i need to wake up, right now.
i thought breaks are supposed to kind of recharge ppl. mine didn’t. i got sick and got lazier. not a good state to be in before finals.

gosh van. go get some sleep girl. and eat
…food and sleep always help me

i just got a b- on my fifth paper. i think i completely went off topic or something. and i thought it was a relatively easy one too. it’s a bit shocking considering the previous 4 A’s but pretty amusing after a while…o well, we just have to laugh at our grades once in a while right… yea

i got an A- on my math midterm… what a surprise! i didnt go to class for the entire month of october and november… haha the last time i went to class was the last midterm, literally. and i really thought i was going to get a C after the exam… i sulked for a few hours thinking goodbye grad school… there was 2 questions i had no idea how to do, and just randomly wrote something… 1 of them being the centroid question. i took the integral of some random function that i made up, with cos@sin$ in it, made up an answer, and the professor gave me 6/8 on it!

this is what makes me realize at the end of day why im a math major. i spend 10 hours /MONTH on calc3, and i get an A-, which is only 20% of my grade so i still have a chance for A and im getting perfect homeworks… but i spend 20+hours/WEEK on english… and i still get a B+ :(… taking 4 math classes is not even close to equivalating taking ONE english class. i should just sign up for 6 science/math classes nex semester and no humanities and see what happen.s

i think by now, our Romanian friend(correct me if i’m wrong) IzzyJ already received a variety of feedbacks about Mao. i don’t know if IzzyJ uses facebook. there are a number of Mao’s on facebook whom you can extend your discussion to.

and now, the rest of my post is not related to Mao discussion.

any one of you (particularly yy, xo, vanilla) got more A’s first semester of college than i had during all my years in high school and college. sigh…

thus, there should be some voice of men…
i saw some clips of Ronaldinyh, he’s amazing… he’s like the best soccer player in the current leagues
xbox360 graphics are amazing, but i ll just ““parasite”” on my friend’s for now.anyway i hope one day, china can develop some innovating tech that serves the greater human good.
yeah, nowadays, a huge portions of young men are dreaming big money in the future. undoubtly, there are already people discussing how to become a “trillionaire”, i’ll say that again, “TRILLIONAIRE”, on the web… quoting muqizhong “there is nothing can’t be done, but only something can’t be imagined…”
i’m not talking about myself…

XBOX360!!! I wish i can get one of those. or even touch it.-_- lucky tang.

Hey, thanks, everybody. It was rather interestin’, seeing the different pov’s on Mao. I’m still thinking a huge part of the blame has to be put on Mao for the Great Leap Forward and its famine, but yes, the other party members and managers for falsifying data to meet quota or exceed have part of the shame, too.

Yay, Cold War.

Oh, and I’m not Romanian. I’m an Asian living in Romania. And I don’t have facebook. My school doesn’t offer its students email addresses of the school domain.

Again, thanks.

Izzy J.

wow azn in Romania… i mean i now all those ppl in Russia or France or ************************************************************************************england but Romania? all i know about romania is Skoda…or is that wrong too?

r u supposed to get alot of As in college? man i wish i was already in college…

and once the Rev or the ps3 comes out next yr, the 360 will be crazy cheap and will have alot of good games and somebody would have cracked it by then…bottom line… 360 is so 06

Brazil and Argentina and UEFA own football more than the US own bball

:)

and now, GOOGLE FIREFOX is also available to be downloaded by international users… download from my site…there is a link…
one question : Where do u all go for SAT testings since its not avaiable in Mainland China…I m from the Indian Thread :)

I took it in Hong Kong, which is like one hour away from my city. That was pretty convenient.
To xo: Haha, I couldn’t agree more with ya. I spent way more time on accounting this semester than calc. But my grades in calc are a solid 4.0 compared with a shaky 3.5 in accounting. Sucky…
New York was awesome… I mean New York State. University of Rochester probably has one of the most grandiloquent library on this library. It was just spectacular. I desperately need to get in U of Rochester right now…

How is U of Rochester with financial aid for internationals? and hows its Comp Engg dept? Whats ur intended major, Zhou?

Hi Ronty. I applied for transfer admission at Rochester. I visited their campus last week right before Thanksgiving break. Ppl from the admissions office told me there are scholarships available to internationals, but I’m not sure if they’re that generous. From what I’ve know, U of Rochester has plenty of academic scholarships but I just don’t know if they’re going to award those scholarships to foreign nationals. Keeping my fingers crosses. I hope I can go there in Spring. Oh, here’s a link that you will find helpful http://www.edupass.org/finaid/undergraduate.phtml

According to US News & World Report, the ENG department at Rochester is not highly ranked. U of Rochester is a school most famous for its research excellence, small class size, business school, med school. If you’re looking into ENG, it’s not the best option.

Thank you Zhou…May you get into ur dream school
btw, did u see my website?
