Does the Choate Rosemary Hall summer program look impressive on Ivy League college applications?

How hard is it to get in?

Bump________

No, it looks expensive. Colleges are not impressed in the least by such programs, they are impressed by the free, highly competitive to get into programs. If you look behindd the facade, anyone who can pay and is not a behavior problem gets into Choate’s and most prep school and college summer progrrms. Go for the enrichment or don’t go.

It depends on the program. During one summer, I did a homestay in Spain for 6 weeks with Choate’s Summer Program. In La Coruna, the city in which we were based, we took classes at a Spanish school with teachers who barely spoke English and lived with our respective host families. When I later interviewed at prestigious colleges (Wesleyan, Bowdoin, etc), they were very impressed. I think nowadays, more and more colleges want to admit students who are eager to immerse themselves in other cultures. Traveling to Spain with your family is one thing, but actually living with a non-English speaking Spanish family for a month and a half is another.
