Dress code requires a blazer to class (in the rule book it states ‘to be worn and not carried’ although I’m not sure how much that is enforced) and the weather is probably warm enough for shorts. So shorts and a blazer it is.
My kid is hosting a potential Deerfield student tomorrow. Kid didn’t ask for a student but got allocated one anyway due to similar profiles!
Apparently many kids signed up to host but there are only a limited number of revisit spaces available, so most didn’t receive a student. The students on campus, or at least the freshmen, are excited about the modified academic schedule with shorter classes on the three revisit days.
That’s wonderful! I hope your son has a great day.
I don’t know about Deerfield’s rules, but at Lawrenceville that’s the psych for the boys’ water polo team—no one here would actually wear anything like that if they had a choice.
I can’t wait to hear about it!
Today was my Deerfield Revisit! I had a great day. First, I met other admitted prospective students in the morning. I saw my interviewer and it was wonderful. My tour guide was great! I had the best classes. I loved watching the students interact with each other and talk about the material. Sit down lunch was so great, and I met so many people. I saw that everyone at Deerfield was so kind. Like so many of you said, the community is great here.
It has given me so much more to think about. My Choate revisit is on April 4th, and it is the time I can make a distinction. Thank you to everyone who has replied. It has been so wonderful to hear from all of you!
Hope you join the family !!
Are you on Deerfield payroll these days
? Joking aside, OP, you have two great options, and I would say they are just different enough that most students will have preference one way or another after visiting, and you have opportunity to revisit, so enjoy your Choate visit, and then trust your gut and decide. Good luck!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I will certainly do that.
How was your Choate revisit day?
How did it compare to Deerfield?
Have you decided?
The numbers for Revisits seem to be down at both schools compared to the pre-COVID era. I spoke with friends who work at Choate and DA. It could be due to the high prices of travel?
Or could it be the virtual events have become more popular so people don’t feel the need to travel?
So sorry for such a late answer. My Choate revisit day was absolutely wonderful. I got to see so much of the school! The people were so nice. I don’t know how to compare both revisit days, since both were so wonderful. But I think for me personally (So no one please take this wrongly), I saw a bit more of an attempt to include us at Choate. They had flags set up to celebrate diversity, and every student I met introduced themselves to me. But it still hasn’t made me choose one over the other. With only 2 days to go, the stress is really there. Thank you all for your support, and I will tell you all once I have made a decision. One of my good friends got into deerfield as well, and it would be so nice to go together. But it definately wont really impact my decision. Thank you MacJackAttack for all your help, and every single person on this thread.
Maybe. But there were only three per each. Maybe it was because of the travel.
Hello Everyone! I ended up choosing Choate. I wanted to thank each and every one of you on your help and advice on my decision. It certainly wasn’t an easy one to make. But after the revisit, I tried to find what the right fit for me was. I believe that Deerfield is an amazing school. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to enroll there. But when I visited Choate, I found a place perfect for me. I cannot wait to see what high school has to offer. I probably should start a new thread, but I wanted to know what being away from home is like. Do you miss home a lot. Are you still really close to your family? I really care about that more than anything. Thank you to each and every one of you for your support. Everyone is so kind, and this community is so wonderful. I found a place on this thread, and realized that everyone is so welcoming and supportive. I love CC. Each and every reply helped me so much. Thank you to all of you.
Congratulations! My Deerfield daughter has not been homesick at all, we are very close and text every day but only FaceTime about once a week. She is sooo busy. She entered as a 17 year old repeat Junior though so I think if she had entered as a 14 year old freshman we would FaceTime more frequently LOL.
Have not yet had an email from Deerfield about WL for my son. Insanely still hoping.
If you are ever sad or lonely, it’s a quick walk to that cupcake shop on Main Street! Everyone at Choate was very welcoming and warm, I think you will love it there!
That’s so nice! I hope she is enjoying Deerfield. I hope your son goes to a wonderful school for high school!
Thank you so much maybeboardingmom, all your help has been so wonderful. I will definately check out the cupcake shop, thanks! I am so excited for my journey at Choate. One of the things I saw at Choate were exactly that: They were so warm and kind. That was one of the things that made me really like the school. Thank you so so much.
