Younger brother is a rising sophomore and has inquired about this.
As a sophomore, I actually took both of these exams and did well enough.
However, this time around, he is rather anxious and nervous about these tests and doubts his abilities. He is currently taking an advanced but non-AP Chemistry course that covers most of the content- there is a month-long study session that meets everyday to cover the rest- of the SAT II exam.
He’s hoping to score an 800, as this is the optimal aim for a, yes I will mention it, HYPSM/Ivy.

Currently, we have my old Princeton’s Review prep book for Chemistry for him to use- is there any improvements in the prep book recommendations list from you guys nowadays?

On the matter of Math Level 2- this, he is definitely taking this year. The cutoff for 800 seems harsh; I think around 4-5 wrong, but as a strong mathematics guy, he will have a good chance at it if he studies.
He’s taken my recommendation of Dr. Chung’s SAT II Math Prep, which I also used with much success. Will that suffice? I have taken some looks at the “Post your Scores” thread and seen some rather disappointed posters about that one extra problem that they messed up, which resulted in a bombed aim-for-this score.
Any insight on this as well?

What is the cutoff for a 800 (for Chemistry, and Math if you can supply) based on recent years’ data? How many questions can you get wrong to still achieve the coveted 800?

Thanks, and as a term II junior, I am glad to have this forum both for a) inspirational success and confirmation that I’m not the only stress-paranoid guy with college issues and b) somewhere to downgrade my self-motivation to .01%.
