Choose a fit college

Hi everyone,
I’m a senior high student from Vietnam.
I’m now in the process of choosing colleges
However, it is quite ambiguous as I started preparing quite late.
Therefore, could anyone suggest any school that can fit me ?

my preference is : LAC, economics, bussiness, public relations
my family can contribute $5000/year
GPA is good, and I’m also at the first place in my class
Extracurricular is ok, leading some program …
I’ll update my SAT and Toefl score soon.

Thank you in advance.

Are you living in Vietnam now?

yes, i am :D

First research which LAC’s give financial aid to overseas (non-US) students. It is going to be a short list. I suggest you expand the list to every and any top 200 school that gives aid to internationals for undergrad.

Also, YOU and your family don’t decide how much you pay. The financial data and the school do.

Edit to say:

also business is not offered at any LAC I know, much less public relations. those are not usually university majors either, but mostly not LAC’s. that is more vocational rather than academic.

Econ, yes-- most every school has econ major. Find one that uses a lot of math if you want to be skilled.

Thank you :D

Rhodes…

10char

Business majors and economics majors are at virtually all universities. Public Relations usually comes under the heading of Communications majors.

If your parents earn too much, you won’t get any F/A at most colleges. Being an International makes it even more complicated. As was said earlier…you don’t get to decide how much your parents pay, the “formula” decides how much your family is supposed to pay. Do you know what their verifiable income is?

What are your stats? GPA…SAT?

I’ve already known the formula and after considering, my family can only contribute about $5000/year. I know it’s quite hard.
In Vietnam we use scale of 10 not 4. So mine is 8.9/10 for both grade 10 and 11
I’ve just taken October SAT so now i’m waiting for the score.
My list now only has Lafayette College, Wesleyan College, Brigham Young Uni.

p.s: now i don’t have intention of SAT subject

I would guess that BYU is on your list because it fits the cost limits you stated, but are you Mormon or do you know much about he Mormon faith? It’s a large university, not a LAC, and the social fit could be awkward if you don’t have a good sense of its religious function.

I have heard about Mormon. So as far as I know, it is not too hard (for me) to get used to the social life in BYU though I don’t intend to be mormon.
Actually, finance is a tough problem now.
Can you suggest some names else ?
