Over the summer I was placed in a lab as an REU student, and I fell completely in love with that lab. As of yesterday, I was notified that I was accepted to that school as a Ph.D. student, and I’m now going through different PI’s to work for. I want to work for the PI as I did over the REU. Is this unheard of or a red flag?
No, it’s actually quite common. A lot of students choose REUs at labs as a sort of test-drive to see if they like the lab before they commit, and some students have it happen randomly that they fall in love with a great lab and go there for grad school. But it’s not at all a red flag - it’s pretty common.
Thanks!
That is sort of the exact purpose of the REU from the student and the program perspective. Hope it works out for you.
