Choosing FWS's for Med School

I understand that most Med Schools in the US want at least 1 semester of an English credit right? Here at Cornell, the FWS is taken as a substitute for an English credit.

But suppose I take two FWS’s in, say, history. Will med schools still count this as an eng credit? Or should I play it safe and take an English FWS?

i think norcalguy (our med school alum) advised to take english as a FWS just as a safety…

although dewdrop said that cornell pre-med certifies FWS as meeting “english comp” requirements

I read somewhere that the Knight Institute will include a letter saying that even if the courses were taken in departments other than English, i.e. Philosophy, the FWS’s still count as English courses.

^ Yeah, I read that as well on Knight Institute’s site.

The Knight Institute will certify that your FWS is equivalent to English composition, which it is since you’re writing in English. However, a few med schools do not accept writing courses to fulfill their English requirements because they expect English literature courses.

There are two types of med school requirements: some med schools require 2 semesters of writing. Some med schools require 2 semesters of English. English courses can always be used to fulfill writing requirements. However, writing-intensive courses are not always accepted to fulfill English requirements.
