Do you happen to have a good gf cinnamon roll recipe?
These would be our options.
Honestly, no. I make a regular no yeast cinnamon roll recipe, substituting gf flour, and it’s not the same as a non gf recipe. Although, it’s still pretty great :-). I think trying a recipe meant to be gf would be better. I’m on the lookout for one.
We have broccoli frittata I make the day before (and it goes in the oven while we unwrap presents) and sometimes the Moosewood spanish frittata as well (potatos, onion, peppers and egg) but our newly acquired FDiL is allergic to peppers so probably not that! And my offspring make toast, because when they were little and wanted to help we had them mass produce toast so now it is a nice tradition, if a bit odd
I do not like baking (and I’m not great at it), so I don’t like to experiment and stick with recipes that I know work (preferably those that works with gf flour as a substitution). I have 2 celiac kids so I like to make mostly gf for holidays.
I typically do a breakfast casserole made the day before and popped in the oven in the morning. We are doing pumpkin pancakes, eggs, sausage, and mimosas this year. Doesn’t take that long.
Respect.
We make huevos rancheros on new years day. Always a hit.
What time should we be over? ![]()
I always make french toast casserole; DD is huge on traditions, so I’d be in trouble if I deviated. I usually do a savory item as well, a quiche or savory casserole. This year I think I’m going to do a ham, egg and cheese puff pastry braid.
One of our family’s traditional put-It-together-the-night-before casseroles
I put extra fresh blueberries just before baking and a sprinkle of them when it comes out of the oven
Actually I never use the liquor and I have sometimes subbed in cream cheese for the ricotta
That looks wonderful. I’m not sure that I want to make it, but I’d sure love to eat it!
Family tradition - breakfast casserole made with eggs, ham, milk, and cheese. It’s a lot of cubing things the night before, but it sets overnight and you pop it in the oven for an hour on Christmas morning. My mom (she would be 100 this year) used to make it. Now it is made at all the kids’ homes. We add strudel pastries, cinnamon rolls, and fresh fruit, usually bananas and strawberries.
I have tears while I’m making it and a few more when we’re sharing grace and our thankful list for the year. I still miss my mom and am grateful for the love she always gave to five children, five spouses, ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
When you have time, will you please share the recipe? That sounds really good.
Sure! I will get it from my dad or sister this week. It’s really good. And you dam make the red sauce ahead of time.
We do have a tradition, most of which is made ahead. We have overnight French toast, orange sections with pomegranate seeds, and typically make scrambled eggs and bacon fresh in the morning.
Our smartest Christmas tradition is making a big pot of soup a day or two beforehand that we can enjoy as an easy meal Christmas night when we are worn out after visiting lots of family
Here’s a Confetti Egg Strata dish (from Pampered Chef); it’s easy to throw together the night before and everyone always likes it.
Confetti Egg Strata
8 oz (1/2 loaf) Italian bread, cut into 1 in cubes
8 oz ham, cut into 1/2 in cubes (1 1/2 cups)
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 cup red or green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup green onions with tops, sliced
2 cups (8 oz) shredded cheddar cheese
10 eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and cut ham into 1\2-inch cubes. Slice mushrooms. Coarsely chop bell pepper. Slice green onions.
Lightly spray 9 x 13 casserole with vegetable oil.
Layer half each of the bread, cheese, ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onion in bottom of casserole. Repeat layers.
Lightly beat eggs. Whisk in milk and seasonings until well blended. Slowly pour egg mixture evenly over layered ingredients. Cover with aluminum foil; refrigerate several hours or overnight.
Remove foil. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake 55-60 minutes or until strata is set and top is golden brown. Cut into squares.
That sounds really good. I may have to try it when the kids come to visit.
Do you put the butter slices on top?
Yes - no hold backs here. Remember,
I started the butter thread ![]()
Lol, but you could probably totally not use it - I use Costco croissants which are such a bargain but also which are very good but not perhaps as buttery as a local bakery croissant.
I feel this in my soul ![]()
