Since your name is audiophile and I was interested in a “wall of sound” Christmas album. What do you think about the bad reviews because this CD is in mono not stereo?

snowball…looks like a good all around choice!

Moreover,

I don’t own the particular CD pressing I linked, I have it in this boxed set: [Amazon.com: Phil Spector: Back to Mono: Music](http://www.amazon.com/Phil-Spector-Back-Various-Artists/dp/B000003BDM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1354910617&sr=1-1&keywords=phil+spector+back+to+mono)

IMO, if it was originally released in mono (as were most singles at that time), it’s many times preferable to be kept in mono. Have the Beatles & Dylan mono box sets and I enjoy them as alternatives to the stereo versions; not necessarily better or worse, just somewhat different. Recently, McCartney re-released the original vinyl mono test pressing of “Ram” and for me, it was akin to “hearing it again for the first time”.

I know the OP is Jewish, but if any of you–including OP-- like historical/Latin church music, try “Advent at Ephesus” By the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles. You can find it on Amazon.

IMO, it is very well done for a local production and soothing to listen to.
(I have it in my car now–can’t have road rage with nuns sweetly singing in the background
) I love this CD and hope others will give it a listen!

Listening to a Josh Groban and Brian McKnight duet now. Helping me clean…ugh.

Thank you very much audiophile. That was exactly the kind of advice I was looking for -it looks like a fun CD. N. Minn, if a CD help or encourages you to clean, I probably need to put it at the top of my list!

One of the nice folk at the old Tower Records in Foggy Bottom gave me a Chuck Brown Christmas CD. Tis the season for go-go.

spurster, thanks for reminding me!!

Used to be one of my favorites but just forgot and haven’t listened in a long time, so I pulled out December and a few other Windham Hill CDs… really great!

Probably a little late for the OP, but Rolling Stone magazine just came out with a list that agrees with me: [The 25 Greatest Christmas Albums of All Time: ‘A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector’ 1963 | Rolling Stone](25 Greatest Christmas Albums of All Time: Bing Crosby, Dylan – Rolling Stone)

Check out Kem’s new CD, “What Christmas Means.” Wonderful jazz/Motown artist. NPR interviewed Kem yesterday.

Any new and notable CDs out this season???

1983 Amy Grant “A Christmas ALbum” and Johnny Mathis 1858 “Merry Christmas” are our two family classics

Michael Buble - Christmas.

I have been playing it non-stop for the past week.

Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Buble, and James Taylor.

All time favorite: Charlie Brown Christmas.

One of my Christmas songs is Tom Waits Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis

Aaron Neville’s Christmas CD is nice

Love Love Love my fave Xmas/Hanukkah instrumentals:

Dave Koz- A Smooth Jazz Christmas (Sax) (also has great Hanukkah song, Eight Candles!)
Chris Botti - December (trumpet)
Otmar Liebert - Christmas Santa Fe (guitar)

Weezer but no John Fahey?

The very first Christmas album I play every year is “The Bells of Dublin” by The Chieftains. It makes me super happy. Next, I play the soundtrack to “The Preacher’s Wife”, which is really fun and upbeat.

I also like the “A Very Special Christmas” compilations from the late '80’s/early '90’s, with U2, Springsteen, No Doubt, and more. I love “Christmas Offerings” by Third Day, as well as Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Harry Connick, Jr., etc., etc. I like to change things up quite a bit with my Christmas music. Heck, I even really enjoy the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton Christmas album!

I think I will buy the new Mary J Blige CD today. Last night I listened to several Christmas stations on Pandora for some ideas. I liked everything they played! :)
