Christmas Finish Line....What To Do To Get There

If you celebrate Christmas, how ready to go are you? 70%? 95? What do you have left to do? Is there an elusive present you’re still looking for? Baking left to do? Cards to mail? Things to wrap? House cleaning or airport picking up??

Thought it would be fun to know that those of us who AREN’T ready are not alone.
Those at 95%+, more power to you!

And those who celebrated Hannukah are now sitting back and watching us scurry…

Present wise, I’m at maybe 94% - a couple of stocking stuffers or gift cards might happen yet. Hoping I can find Wayfair gift cards at the grocery store!

Wrapping wise, everything at home is wrapped except stocking stuff (yes we wrap stocking stuff - that means ME!) but some stuff still to arrive in the mail.

Baking wise 4 things done, one in the freezer to bake, cutouts (my least fav to do) yet to go.

Also trying to fix up one bedroom that has been in transition…and get it ready for occupancy!

The house will be as clean as time allows. My biggest goal is just as little clutter as possible. Should be in pretty good shape there.

Thank goodness we aren’t celebrating Christmas until December 27! Gives me time to finish everything for that day.

Right now…just need to get the rest of the decorations out (very lean this year) and bake two batches of cookies for the neighborhood cookie exchange. And I have a teeny bit of grocery shopping to do for my Christmas Eve appetizers, and the the potatoes romanoff I’m making for Christmas Day.

Really….not too bad!

I am so lost that I can’t put a percentage on it. :frowning:

Both the offspring changed plans about two days ago, couldn’t be helped, so we are continuing to make it all up as we go. Thank goodness I wrapped the presents weeks ago.

I have cookies to defrost and pack, food to prep and freeze for the surprise travel. It will all be fine. Yup. Fine, fine, fine

Can’t help with the %, but can help with the encouragement!

We will be hosting at least 3 events at our house, along with kids coming home and family coming to town to “keep busy”. I WILL enjoy it but also for me who likes quiet quite a bit…I’ll be ready for the couch and some “me” time by Dec. 29!

S is already here. D is taking her last finals today and will fly here tomorrow. Shopping is done, a few specialty foods should arrive in the next few days (FedEx willing). Cooking/baking will start soon and continue non-stop thru Jan 3rd.

Actually, cooking/baking starts in 3, 2, 1…

I would have said I’ve been 100% for awhile. Decorations have been up since before Thanksgiving, because I like the house to look nice then. I’d say everything was wrapped a week or so ago.

Older S & GF came through last weekend, so we did our Xmas with them then. We’ve whittled down our list, so there aren’t many people. Most older out of town relatives got food baskets. Kids’ big gift now is $$$, but they had a few things.

But, I just realized that younger GF’s second gift isn’t ready. H bought her the Taylor Swift Time magazine, but didn’t have the foresight to send it to HER house. We are going there for Xmas, but there was no way it would be shipped in time to our house before we left. Not a huge deal, but I’ll likely make a card that says what it is. I always do that - make a really cute sheet/card - for the kids when I give them $$$ or if something is on its way. So I’ll do that this afternoon before we leave tomorrow morning.

Well I just realized I need one more thing for D’s stocking as well as a small gift card for our letter carrier (she is awesome). Then I THINK I am done with gifts (famous last words…).

SIL’s parents and brother will be here and we are doing dinner on Christmas Eve. H will do most of the cooking. but S and I are planning to set up a charcuterie board and we need to start that going. S doesn’t get here until Saturday night, so I need to shop for that.

Wrapping is finished!

Do you have charcuterie standard items you like/get??? I’ll be doing one for at least one of the events we host. I know cheese, meat, nuts, olives/pickles, a little sweet, etc. - but like to hear what favs people have they include.

D24 just requested gingerbread making (an annual tradition)–but since she is quite sick, I think we’ll be doing it on Thurs (not tomorrow). We have all our shopping done/have reached giving up point. This stage always comes! I think we did pretty well finishing up. I feel like I never have enough stocking gifts, since I want them cheap, like kids’ gifts! Wrapping is barely started, but it’s always pretty easy to do in the last days. My cousin just sent me a card, and, as usual, I have sent cards to everyone but the people (including him) who will be reaching me with cards in the next few days! Nevertheless, grateful and happy to all be in pretty good health, and anticipating a low-key holiday.

I was feeling super prepared until my H tested positive for covid on Sunday morning. He is technically allowed out of isolation on Friday, the day our D is supposed to come home but he’s coughing so everyone will need to mask.

I’m trying to figure out if it will be mild enough to eat xmas eve dinner on our front porch with lots of blankets or if we are going to need to FaceTime with him.

Also praying that the rest of us keep testing negative.

Most gifts are purchased, tree is purchased, no decorating done, cards and stamps haven’t arrived here yet. No food shopping done. Basement flooded yesterday so that took time,I now have close to a dozen instruments in my living and dining rooms. Husband woke up with the coughing crud and is still in bed. I assume he will infect us all. Definitely not ready! Oh and the gift I ordered for MIL is MIA, Amazon says I can cancel if I don’t get it tomorrow, but I don’t have time to send anything else (and FIL passed 20 days ago so she’s alone).

I guess I should test my husband, have kids 2 home and 3 arriving Thursday.

90%?

One gift to buy, but that gathering isn’t until 1/21, and we kind of decided last night what to get.

One other gift yet to wrap.

Grocery shopping and a little bit of advance food prep.

I’m not hosting extended family but we will have both girls and their fiancés for several days. I just want to have lots of meal ideas ready and ingredients on hand. The boys eat way more than I am used to preparing and I do not want to fall short! I have a list of ideas and a grocery list to start on tonight.

I should have had a clause (not the Santa Claus variety… ) that said, “if you’re done with everything, you aren’t allowed to post”!!!

Will be decorating the tree soon. It is a live one so can’t be inside for too long… hence the late start.

Decorated, wrapped and just finished a Costco run. Still need a couple stocking stuffers. Still need to clean some beds/bathrooms. Dinner guests on Saturday, guests on Christmas Day for dinner and all my kids driving out from the city and staying for a few days along w/fiance and a Gf. It will be busy and fun and then boom, it will all be over:)
